        Afternoon folks,

Just elasticated my sticking with the conventional plastic connector and it got me thinking, maybe next time I’ll try a Dacron connector.

I see them used quite a lot but have never fancied using them myself. I know they are lighter (and arguably better for the pole) but I cant see the material they are made of being very anti tangle.

        Your thoughts?

I changed about 5 years ago and would not go back for virtually all my fishing these days.

Less tangles, less wrap overs, no connector coming undone when tapping, slapping etc dacrons are infinitely better in my opinion, get them off ebay or make yourself and much better value than the commercially availabe ones.

Only exceptions are canal elastics, you might wanna stick to micro connectors as knots are so small and if fishing something like red hydro consider a crows foot or be careful how you do dacron as knots are so big! be fair you aint likely to be tapping and slapping on canals or with red hydro.

            As above really.
Home made dacrons for all my fishing apart from heavy elastic for margin fishing where I use the crows foot and really light elastic where micro connectors are best.

Micros connectors for 6 and below. Dacron for everything else!

l would appear that I should change next time! Silly question but what do you use to make them? The ones I’ve seen have an elliptical bead on them. Yeh, I’ve seen a crow’s foot on red hydro, it’s massive! Especially with a sleeve. How does the line connect if it’s looped rig line to looped dacron? Sound like a boost I know, and I think I know, but all advice is welcome.

Have a look on eBay they are cheap.

Look on YouTube for how to connect, single elastic overhand knot and simple loop in Dacron……easier to see on YouTube.

Angler Paul M, send me your address and I will send you 3 FOC. (I think you are following me on Twitter).

I make them using 30lb flyline backing and Helicopter beads.

When using hollow elastics, tie a knot in the end of your elastic and slide the loop to the back of the knot (between your knot and pole tip) and then slide the bead up over your knot.

No need to tie a full knot to the dacron connector and it does not come undone. I have been doing it this way for over 10 years now.

When your elastic frays a bit, just tie a new knot in the good elastic and then slide the loop back down again.

If you pick up a free copy of PI Winning pegs 7 Des Shipp demonstrates how to do this. He is obviously pushing the Preston ones but the others are the same.
Agree with crows foot too for red hydro/lumps, I was once broken on the dacron and red hydro on a foul hooked lump down the edge so have reverted to crows foot when big doubles are about, dacron for everything else..

Soooo reception around my neck of the woods has gone from good to shocking, waiting for internet repair on the 28th. So blogging and fishing has slowed right down (totally forgot Christmas was coming and how expensive it was). My most recent fishing blog has gone online though, hopefully it is informative, and answers a few questions I’ve received recently. Have a read here – http://www.coarsefishingpaul.blogspot.co.uk/

                            belatedly agree Terrence,
making double loops out of 0.10 dia and below is easy – but faffing about with the often twizzled resulting longer loop in same low dia.s to open up on cold winters days means i’m deffo going back to micro-connectors for solds below a no.5

While I quickly have reception, here’s another blog post which has just gone online. It’s in keeping with my last post, and hopefully answers the remaining questions I’ve been getting. Hope it all makes sense. Have a read here – http://coarsefishingpaul.blogspot.co.uk/
