I use a mixture of preston hollo, and steve maher aquaflow hollow elastics, both are very durable and work well.

Middy shock core hollow 12 – 16 (the red one) for general carping. Its somewhere between a grey & black hydro equivalent. Got it in a lot of my top kits and been using it for a few seasons so tried & trusted, I dont use any of the other Middy hollow elastics though so cant comment on any of the other sizes. Good value for money too at around £7/£8 a spool.

My 3 favorite elastic’s for summer are white hydro and red and orange Vespe. The orange is the best bagging/margin elastic I have found!

the orange vespe is exellent summer elastic imo, tryin the 2core of ebay at mo the green, and teale seems good stuff and only £5.99 including p&p.

Check out the new tacklenets 2 core hollow available at £5.99 for 3 metres, the black is almost identical to black hydro in look and feel except no liquid, the rest of the range look superb just re-elasticated six top kits with this stuff as a lot of lads really rate this new kid on the block, they were doing a special on the blue which is rated I think to 11 to 13 at £5.59 as it is a new addition to the range, packaging and product is top drawer definitely worth the money. In fact I bought some daiwa hydro to replace in some kits having seen the tacklenets I feel as if I have been robbed lol

both tacklenets and recently Nick Gilberts laccies have replaced nearly all mine with exception of white hydro and brown for extreme margin/snags.
I”m just about to try the tacklenets new ‘blue’ (white hydro) rated equivalent over next few matches – not the same as the 6-8 ‘blue’.
I still have 2 kits with 17h in – but am sure the tacklenets red would do the same job – when they wear out.

Just bought some Tackle nets elastic I can’t quantify how good it is yet as it remains unused, glad Wightangler pointed out the blue is similar to white hydro as I thought it was punching above its weight slightly when I put it in.

Been using tacklenets 2 core all year, the green 12-15 find a great all round commercial elastic
for carp landed some lumps at woodland Thirsk on light lines using it. Also used the yellow 9-12 for bream, F1’s and small carp (>4lb) also found this good where catching mixed bag and want carp to move out of swim with minimum disturbance.

Have the teal 5-8 and the Orange 6-10 find these good for silvers in summer and Winter F1

Bought the new light blue to use this summer and the black which I must agree with previous posts is as near the original black hydro as I’ve found any elastic.

I have use the middy 12-16 for a few years as find it a fantastic carp elastic however when done I will be replacing it with the green 2core. None of which are showing the effects of a seasons use as yet.

one of my ‘newer’ white hydro’s ‘snapped last week after got rig caught on a reed leaf about 6m out – strangely i had’nt even reached the top kit to pull for a break on 0.12 and managed to got the rig and laccy back by using the pole tip to catch the broken laccy.

Later, on examination – i found another 3 areas where the laccy was likely to break!

I’d had this batch of white hydro’s less than one year – and remarkably still have one kit that has white hydro in that is 12 years old – and still going string with no ‘wear’ sections.

In my previous post i admitted to still using the white and pink hydro with the rest tacklenets.

Having tried the orange 8-10 tacklenets – my impression is that it seems very similar to the old PI red 11H – which i’d tried and but did’nt prefer to white hydro.

After this latest hydro breakage – apart from the vintage kit – i’ll be using more tackle as nets orange – as having a newish white hydro break hardly fills me with any confidence to risk buying more – of what was. imo, their best laccy in the white grade.

Been using the map 1-5 hollow for small silvers and found it really good but difficult to get hold of so, got some yellow hydro off Santa. set it up like the MAP through top 3 with a pulla bung and used it on Sunday. Felt really nice catching gudgeon with odd 6oz roach, looking forward to trying it again at the weekend catching roach with the odd perch.

will reserve judgement until after Sunday.

The trubucco at £11.99 for 3 metres is a tad expensive for just a bog standard hollow, at that price you might as well buy hydro at least you can guarantee supply, however after trying the tacklenets hollow for £5.99 for 3 metres that is where my money is going.

hi fred what do you think about double never used double. always used hollow.

I have used doubled standard elastic normally preston , it is good in the fact that you have the retractability of hollow elastic and I used it quite extensively at first as I say it has it’s plusses, the fact that it is soft initially and then powers up, now this is ok on fish that like peas in a pod, same average size, however when hitting medium sized fish with the odd powerful lumps was when I encountered problems with doubled up elastic, I can only say that to many lumps lost made me switch back to hollow,( but then again price wise it was cheap compared to hollows, with Nick Gilbert now charging for the length of hollow you need and tacklenets elastic at £5.99 prices have become affordable especially if you want to re elasticate 10 top kits) however using doubled standard elastic for me was prior to the extensive use of pulla bungs which in my opinion have changed the format when it comes to playing fish especially carp, we all know carp fight harder the harder they are pulled, so with hollows we have the advantage of using a lighter softer elastic with a pulla bung, this allows a carp to go on a run but the ability to increase the tension as the fish runs out of steam. Using hollow is virtually hassle free and I don’t have to mess about with it, I can get my kit out and know that it will work trouble free every time, but again every angler has there own preference you have to use what is right for you.

Just to report on the yellow hydro I set up and said I would comment on.

Well fished two silverfish matches using the yellow and blue Hydro and No 4 & 5 solids. Venues were between 8 -10ft deep. Used 2gr float to combat need 10ft depth and tow at first match, Found Blue hydro and solid 5 most effective catching roach and perch to 1lb to win 3lb clear of 2nd, yellow hydro was to soft on strike.

Sunday saw me fishing a lake I’ve never fished, set up identical rigs to fish 8ft deep with 0.4g riggs, yellow hydro had bulk at 5ft blue hydro bulk at 6ft (absolutely no tow/movement).

Catching roach to 1lb the yellow hydro performed exceptionally well, allowing quick shipping back from 14.5m to the match kit to land fish using the pulla kit, Switching to blue hydro occasionally during the day in an effort to land fish a little quicker resulted in the opposite effect due to the number of bumped bites and pull outs; which resulted in second with 18lb 15oz, 5oz (one fish) behind the winner.

My overall impression of this yellow hydro is that it really will take some beating for silvers so much so I have already set up a second kit with it in.

I’ve tried loads of elastics. Middy is okay but I find it rots quickly. The Vespe, Browning, Frenzee and Garbo Bazoocarp hollows are all exactly the same stuff. I had some Trabucco that was the 100% same elastic as Preston hollow. Think most of it comes from the same place.
Hydro takes some beating but everytime I buy it its a different thickness  . Ive got white that is the same as grey and black in two sizes.
