        Sharkatag 2014

Now in its sixth year, SSACN’s Sharkatag event will once again hit the shores of southwest Scotland this summer on the 6th, 7th and 8th June. Sharkatag is a non-competitive, friendly angling event, the aim of which is to tag and collect data on shark species in Scottish waters through the Scottish Shark Tagging Programme (SSTP).

Sharkatag will run from bases at Drummore, Sandhead, Isle of Whithorn and Brighouse Bay and targets a wide range of species meaning that boat, kayak and shore anglers can all get involved.

This year the event will have a particular focus on ray species: thornback ray catches in the Solway appear to be steady or increasing; however numbers of blonde, spotted and cuckoo rays seem to have fallen dramatically over recent years. We will be asking anglers to carefully record different ray species caught over the weekend in addition to the usual catches of tope, smoothhound, spurdog and bull huss!

Visit http://www.tagsharks.com/tagging-programmes/sharkatag2014 for more information or get involved in the event.
