I’ve done a lot of slider fishing over the last year or so and have used Rive’s W24 which are really expensive the Calrusso zero sliders and the hollow tip perfect sliders. The Rive bases started to unscrew after a number of casts and are now glued in. the Calrusso zeros are simple to use and effective. My personal choice is the perfect hollow tip slider they are strong, fly well and have easily seen tops which will allow you to put line on the deck. I use the red tip which i’ve glued in (i always do this with push on tips) and slide over black valve rubber the tip in white water. The only slight issue is the stated shotting is to high all the floats i have take about 1gm less than stated. If you want a good read on slider fishing have a look at ‘sliding across frontiers’ on the web. If that inspires you as it did me i can tell you that the anti tangle twizzled rig works well although i just use 30 cm of 30lb line with a swivel on each end. The german anti tangle ball weights can be easily made by countersinking dinsmores ball weights. The anti tangle tubes can be made using hollow float tip tubing and pushing on a feeder tail rubber so you have what looks like a horn then pushing your choice of olivette point in first. I use drennan olivettes as bulk as they have the weight stamped in them and are small and neat. Drennan’s swivel quick change float adapters and float stops are useful and i’m playing around with no1-2 elastic for my sliding knot. All slider floats can be purchased from benwick sports while there look at the perfect sensitive waggler not a slider but a great float for large open roach waters and there is Rive W24 copy from perfect that is a work of art far to good to get wet just in case i lost it……sad i arent i.
