TF_paulnewellAlso arrow valley in Redditch my home town !!!!! But the 28 cormorants on the island and some more in the air this winter might just slow it down from 2013 . 😡 But we all know they don’t eat much , they only come inland because we raped the seas , they have as much right to be there as we have . The matches coming soon will tell a story . I hope skimmers can swim faster than those pests!!!

TF_scottypArrowvalley is in dire straights – recent pleasure nets have produced nothing – i walked it last friday afternoon and only counted 4 birds – the usual roost (which is now white with poo) was empty.
I have to give the council some credit as they have fitted some cages to give shelter to the fish – a bit late in the game for them, but they’ve done something which is beter than nothing.
Needs to settle down now and see what happens in the warmer weather – fingers crossed as it could have been a premier silver fish fishery -

TF_inky fingerLast year the Roach and skimmers went mad on fuzton after a large loss of bream in early summer. Even harded feeder anglers picked up the pole in these matches with top weights of 30 to 50lb plus of quality silvers. Lodge lake fished well for roach as is usual. The big surprise was willen north regulary producing large bags of monster bream and big tench on what is normally a very hard water. These are all within a few minutes drive of my front door. Milton Keynes isn’t just roundabouts it has some of the best all round fishing opportunities in the country imo.

TF_paulnewellArrow Valley lake from an angling perspective has never really stood a chance . I believe that the council deep down frown upon angling and we figure way down on the list of priorities . When John Lewis ran it , it was getting good because he fished himself and got us the best deal . Unfortunately he died and the venue was put into the hands of those that wanted reedy areas for birds to nest . Vast lengths of bank became out of bounds for angling . Large sums of money were spent on boating facilities. A special green surface covers the full perimeter for cyclists to hurl around ringing loudly their bells warning unsuspecting people on foot . !! GET out the way . !! They did fund the anglers platforms but they couldn’t get that right . Most are too close and then there are large gaps . Doubtfull anyone with any nowse was consulted . OH J Lewis also culled those bloody horrible Canadian geese . Saying that I hope the onslaught of cormorants and gooseanders have left some skimmers to catch this summer. ?? 😮

TF_dendraDoesn’t look good for the Valley but there is a massive head of proper bream in the venue, surely these bigger fish have not been preyed upon.A open two years back was an eye opener,Ninety plus won it, high fifties and fourties off Bluebell, fifty eight pounds off 23 on the Shakey with late thirties and twenties coming off the run through 30-24 ,bream everywhere.

TF_dendraPegs 54 and 55 were left out that day, what would have come off those .

TF_scottypAbsolutely a huge head of bream in the 3-5lb bracket, and plenty of carp left in there (the duck feeding area was black with them last night when i walked it) – but will the bream want to feed, although not edible to the cormorants, i dont beleive it will have stopped the cormorants trying and having a go!
No, angling has never been on top of the list of priorities for sure, but at least it does have platforms, it does have a great path all the way round it and it is fishable – 71 pegs aint too bad -

TF_paulnewellFair comments scottyp I just can’t help that feeling of what the venue could have been and when it’s in your own backyard  Perhaps the smaller ones have been thinned well catch some munsters . Method feeder might dominate ?? Unfortunately. IMO. 😮

TF_dendraI thought they would still feed on the feature pegs Scott, but only two bream came off 54 on the first open I believe.?They can’t all be up the sanctuary as you would be able to walk across em.
I agree Paul the skimmer explosion made more pegs worthwhile drawing, let’s hope they have not been hammered too much.

TF_paulnewellThanks let’s be fair there’s only a handful of Island points to draw for method chucks . Maybe open Enders into open water or even method feeders into open water will still compete ? It seems roach fishing was not working and those small skimmers gave pole anglers the chance of a good prize . Only recently realised not everyone is upset by the demise of small fish stocks IE Carp boys. , Speci boys ., Method feeder specialists !!! Matchmen seeking quality silverfish reasonably fair competition fishing . Will become frustrated !

AnonymousI have a lake near me (£4 a day) where you can get some really big weights of roach in Winter and Spring.
My mate usually get around 90lbs-100lbs a session. -

Although a commercial carp venue I have seen numerous sixty pound weights of roach.Think seventy plus is the best so far.
