TF_Paul EdwardsWhen fishing maggot over groundbait for carp/F1’s, is there a specific G’bait that is favoured? Are dead maggots preferred and what sort of quantities are needed?
Thanks -

TF_tony csasI resently started using this method, think it needs to warm up a touch, dead maggot and a fishmeal groundbait, would like to hear some feed back

TF_Paul EdwardsThanks Tony, I have started to fish larford on a regular basis and some of the more regular anglers have started catching down the edge on dead reds over G’Bait, and was wondering whether there was a favourite type of G’Bait. I will ask at local shop for there reccommendation.

Have a word with them anglers, I’m sure they will tell all – most anglers will be honest

TF_Terrence22For down the edge with dead maggot I tend to look for a heavy inactive mix with a strong smell. Don’t really want loads of bits of grounbait wafting al over the place as it increases the chances of foul hooking fish.
I think Sonubaits have just released a mix specifically designed for fishing down the edge.

TF_morris1985I experimented with this a lot last year as somebody else said it needs to warm up abit it has worked best for me in around 2ft of water any deeper and it seems to drift around the peg rather than settling in one area! I found best that for every kilo of ground bait I pint of water is best as it tends to make the mix abit more heavier ! I would not hesitate to use 2kg sometimes 3kg depends on the day and also the size of fish your catching! I also fish about 2″ over depth as you can get lots of funny indications and when the float buries it’s nine times out of ten hooked and in the lip!! If your using dead mag don’t mix it with your ground bait cup neat pots in over the top of the ground bait it can be a very deadly method when done at the right time and I wouldn’t start feeding it until the last 2 hours and going on it for the last hour or so hope this help boys

TF_morris1985Yeah I’ve had good catches on big cubes of meat an the odd lib worm you want something reasonably big to around out pal ! Try different colours of ground bait aswell ive found a really smelly red ground bait works well for me and the. New spray called stinky stuff is awesome but it stinks ha the maruku liquids work well also ! And I only feed one side of my margins you see people feeding both but you don’t want to split your fish if you can help it! It’s a very aggressive way of fishing and also very positive in means of tackle don’t mess about with small hooks and lines lol
