Chris Taylor awesome chub angler tells our host . He’s the Sargent at Osnabruk barracks. There’s chub in here !!! Sarge lives here , knows this beautiful small river like the back of his hand . No chub in here , never seen one caught or weighed in . Ever !! ILL catch one says Taylor very cock sure. River is 12ft deep , Chris gives it plenty of maggots and wagglers 3 ft deep . The sarge and some German anglers were gobsmacked when they weighed him in . On my life he got one . A one off . :p

Some time later , perhaps someone knows what year the Green Party took control in Germany and banned keep nets in angling . This put paid to matchfishing . You could still fish matches but you had to kill all fish , they said it was cruel to keep them in nets . German matchmen now travel all over Europe to enter competitions .

I can remember Wolfgang Kremkus on ‘Hooked’.

Can’t say I can name another German match angler…

              Shame really.

For a while I thought I was talking to myself . Kagger he was World Champion and they produced a fantastic Bream groundbait called Mein Futter , I am fluent in German you know . ?? It had a curios spicy smell that I haven’t come across in anything else . Wonder if he’s still at it or if the GB is still available ? klaus Fix ??

Just got in from work mate, so just seen the thread.

Being perfectly honest, there are only two people I can remember being on hooked. One was the aforementioned, and the other was Jack Charlton. Some of the top names ever in our sport must have been on it, Ivan, Boris, Big Kev etc, I just don’t remember them.

Dunno why I remember Wolfgang. Perhaps just his unusual name. I certainly can’t remember him being world champion.

I was born in ’69 so i’m guessing I was 10/11 when Hooked was on TV, but I was completely obsessed by all things piscatorial.

                  A bit like now lol

Fairly sure he won it in Ireland . Jenny Hanley was on hooked and well worth watching . Got a feeling Ken giles and Max winters appeared .

Didn’t Allan Haines win it one year?

Chub are Dobel in german (with umlaut on the o)

Wolf Kremkus was about my first memory of world champs – when he led the German team to a near clean sweep (4 section wins plus a 3rd) on the River neckar in 1980. It was the year before Luddington and I think England finished second. he also won the individual and again in 1983.

I remember Allan Haines winning hooked on a terrible venue – might have been in Ireland. Also seem to remember a year at Longleat? I do remember Billy Makin and Ian Heaps taking part as well.

Find out about the groundbait ? Been a long time since the German team won anything at international level . Must be to do with the keep net ban .

                            Paul,

You’re going back 30 years with “Mein Futter” (literally “my feed”) …. Very much doubt it’s still available.

IIRC Kremkus provided his special mix to the team for the team match on the Neckar, but kept it to himself for the individual match. Not sure if the commercially available one was the same mix!
There’s a guy with username Markus who contributes to several forums, I suspect he could give us an accurate update on the current state of German match fishing.

Btw … Are you back on the rivers now? Will we see you on the Avon this year?

Yes I will be on riverfest at Eckington . It replaced Evesham you probably know . Regular visits to Evesham is not in my plans for a number of reasons . Lots like it and good luck to them . Got eleven riverfest tickets and a letter from last year . it read must try harder . 🙂

Was thinking more the upper Avon, barford and suchlike? Would have thought more your style …
Mind you I’m gong to miss most of the opens there this year because of other commitments … Which won’t be a bad thing given the draws I’ve had for the last two ….. Making up for all the fliers I used to draw!

You will remember Hampton Lucy and Grove Farm . I had my first big Open matchwin there . 40 yrs ago aged 18 . With 5lbs 14oz of little chub , dace , and gudgeon . The newspapers gave me a small mention for coming first , then gave the bloke who came second half a page and his picture ?? They really bigged him up and it was only Tony Scott .?? I’ve had huge respect for the angling press ever since !!!
