I must admit to using these floats for the first time yesterday at decoy fishing up in the water for F1’s, although I had a reasonable day I had problems with these floats the main problem is that the floats have such a fine fibre glass stem they tend to slide about despite finding the finest silicone tubing to secure them in place, a brilliant float shame about the stem, if the stem was in .75 or 1 mm fiberglass they would have been unreal.

Good point fred – i bought and rigged some up last night, i’ve used a very long piece of silicone down the whole stem ans it seems to have secured the float pretty well

Just put mine on winders seem alright with 0.5mm silicone on – I always put a shot under my floats anyway, are the eyes so small for a reason ?

I never had a problem with the float sliding about. Maybe you need some smaller tubing

I would blame your silicone not the float

great up in the water floats however the float isn’t secure, it’s when you start to slap with them that they slide to easily having a shot under the float does not stop it moving up, started with 0.5 silicone changed it to stuff I use on wire stems still had problems when slapping! Nightmare

I’ll have to source some good silicone or take scottyp’s advice and put silicone tubing down the whole stem, thick hydro tubing just won’t do it on an ultra fine stem, did think about taking the stem out re-drilling and putting a thicker one in might still give that a whirl.

checked the drennan crystal dibber stems last night – they’re thicker than carbon and 0.6mm wire stems and only just a tad smaller than the coloured fibreglass a local bloke makes our floats from, and fit snugly, without any movement, on basic semi-clear commercial silicon.

As I trashed a few the other day I have reset them up with some new clear 0.5 silicone however I have increased the length of silicon tubing on the float as scottyp suggested to virtually cover the stem seems little movement now well see if works on my next slapping session 😉
