Victory for England at Fish’O’Mania 2014

The 12th and 13th July was the weekend for the 21st annual Fish’O’Mania challenge, which sees international fishing enthusiasts compete for a number of titles. This year the competition was held in Cudmore Fisheries near Stoke.

Saturday 12th July saw the individual stage where the participants’ aims were to catch the most weight in fish to receive the huge £30,000 prize money. Andrew Geldart took this prestigious angling title and rightly so after plenty of hard work to improve his fishing skills after coming third when he entered the contest 3 years ago.

Andrew was mainly catching roach and skimmers which were making up the bulk using feeder and pole with 8mm banded pellet over 6mm feed, he also caught around 6 decent carp which saw him win the match with an overall weight of 19.57kg. Even the Yorkshire fisherman catching zero fish in the final hour wasn’t enough to knock him off the top spot, although second place Dan Brydon put in a fantastic effort to take second place and £5,000 with a weight of 16.32kg.

Sunday 13th saw the various country teams all facing each other to win the Betway international Fish’O’Mania champion title, and this year we are proud to say that England won! Will Raison and Des Shipp led the country to victory with Holland finishing up in second place and Poland not far behind in third. The English duo was unstoppable on the day finishing with a whopping 42.770kg, comparing to Holland’s second place score of 27.900kg. The pair snapped up the £10,000 prize money and a feeling of pride for representing England to a victorious win.

Overall it was a fantastic weekend for this sport and showcased a range of talented people who love fishing; all equipped with some of North East Tackle best selling brands ( http://www.northeasttackle.co.uk/ron-thompson-m3 ) , we can’t wait to watch it all over again in 2015!
