TF_JohnHAnyone else having problems with these? I mean the one directly under the seat pad.
Either items get wedged between the seat base and tray inserts or the tray itself catches on the screws holding the seat pad on?
I have just become so fed up I have removed the drawer unit and simply fitted a spacer instead.I am average build so if I am having trouble goodness knows how some go on.

TF_craigmI had the same problem, and tried loads of things but then sold them all and replaced with Fox MSB ones.

TF_craigmThat’s what I did but then you lose the 30mm drawer. I’ve still got it somewhere.

TF_SteveWrightNot sure how you lose the 30mm drawer if you fit the base plate as that is what’s on my box. The problem probably lies with your seat if it is the original Rive one. For such a great box they are poorly made using a cheap wood in the seat base. Once it gets damp a few times the wood swells and pushes down on the top of the draw causing it to stick and it just gets worse over a period of time.
I ended up replacing the seat with one from a guy on Facebook/ebay called Anthony Ian Hurst which was loads cheaper and far better manufactured and I think the wood is marine ply which is treated to stop this happening. Fitted the new seat and one of those plastic spacers from Nathan’s and never had a problem since.
I took the cover off the original Rive one and the wood was just like a sponge and really swollen so it went in the bin, hope that’s helps a bit. -

TF_Martin25664Craigm, the spacer goes inbetween the seat and the draw!

TF_AKMEGAJParticipantDoes the purchase of this Rive spacer also stop the problem of water filling the cross drawer when it rains?

So you screw it to the bottom of the seat and then screw the drawer unit onto the spacer ?? Or screw the drawer unit onto the seat through the spacer ??

If I think it’s going to rain, I put the cover on, and just lift it up to get access to the draws. I only use side draws mind.
Saves all me precious rigs getting damp…

TF_SteveWrightThe spacer screws directly to the bottom of the seat. The 30mm side draw frame then screws through the spacer into the seat as well. The holes are already pre drilled through the spacer (which also is supplied with all the right screws).

AnonymousI hate to say ‘I told you so’ but as a Civil Engineer I work on the basis of design being ‘function over form’. i.e. it doesn’t particularly matter what it looks like as long as it does the job properly for an economically sustainable price. Rive boxes are designed by what I would call ‘Architects’, i.e. It doesn’t matter if it works or what it costs as long as it looks good. I’ve been asking on various websites for ages now how Rive can justify a £1000+ asking price for the lastest boxes that contain about £45 worth of materials. I’ve had sad answers involving things like ‘design costs’ but I’m pretty sure the Egyptians beat us to the concept of the ‘box’ and even Chippendale furniture has adjustable legs and concealed drawers that slide out. Strangely enough I’ve never had a plausible answer on this question. It’s like the current 4×4 so called ‘off-roader’ car syndrome, They are mostly crap because they are based on normal car chassis / suspension geometry that isn’t designed for the raised floorpan, but.. ‘I must have a 4×4 even though I will never leave the city centre, never put more than 1 point 2 kids in it, never be able to park it properly because it’s so big on the outside, but they look good and everyone else is buying them so they must be good so I must have one. And I must drive it with fog lights on at all times!!!
The unfortunate economic truth is that as long as we are stupid enough to pay stupid prices for poor design and quality then the manufacturers will continue to be able to sell it to us.
Rant over.

TF_minimeatThanks for that insight Roundabout Boy. I for one will not be buying a Rive now I’m armed with those facts.

TF_CraigHMy Rive has been fine, with no drawers sticking, is solid and I don;t think could be more stable, and didn’t cost me £1000. Check http://www.delphi-peche.com. Another case of Rip-off Britain again.
And a good time to buy with the Euro so low. 😉
