REPORT
Championship Match 10, also for the Richardson Cup, was jointly held with Soldiers & Sailors AC at the Birch House Fishery near Brailsford, using the Mallard Pool.
Last year’s event on the same venue produced quite poor weights so expectations were not high, and anglers were pleasantly surprised to find that the lake had been restocked and produced much better catches than the previous year.
The top weight was a respectable 45-12 and was taken by John Adamson from a peg (21) at the end of the lake. John alternated between using a method feeder cast to a lily bed, pole at 8m and the margin throughout the match to keep fish interested, and baiting with pellet and meat caught carp, bream, crucian carp and goldfish.
Second weight fell to Rob Pembridge on peg 26. Rob fished meat at 4m and had bites throughout the match, catching all species (including crayfish which didn’t count), finishing with a big carp – landed after the final whistle – to total 39-07.
Paul Marriott took third place with some excellent carp from peg 11 alternating between pole and method feeder and baiting with caster and maggot, his weight being 35-05.
The next three places were filled by Les (Bow) Overmass (28-06 from peg 15), Mick Lager (27-07 from peg 29), and Championship Leader Dave Cotterill (25-04 from peg 33).
In the LEVAS Championship, Dave Cotterill is now on 149 points, followed by Steve Talbot (136), John Adamson (134), Rob Pembridge (133), and Mick Lager (122).
Next match is on Sunday 21 September at Riddings Fishery on the Match Lake.
