I always line up my map 501 properly. But my previous pole, a preston cxr, did not have any arrows or likewise to line up. Surely, if it was that vital, then all poles would have arrows or similar? Or is it only important with higher grade carbon?

Depends how the pole is made. With some it makes a SMALL difference with others it simploy doesn’t matter.

It makes no difference as long as you use the pole correctly. I,ve never brocken a pole section with normal/correct use. In fact, its probably almost impossible to break a pole section with correct/normal use. The few sections i,ve damagd have always been my fault (bad angling if you like). Seen hundreds of sections break over the years. In every case. It has been the anglers fault and nothing to do with the pole being weak or not having the sections lined up right.

My pole has numbers on it . So if you line them up the pole will be at its stiffest . The seams mean nothing to my knowledge , just where the carbon wrap ends . It’s my opinion that numbers and alignment arrows help manufacturers sell curved pole sections !!! This then gives an impression of stiffness . Actually used as a plus point in selling in years gone by . Never thought it was a weakness or let it bother me . But if you turn the arrows down you will see a different pole . Personally I would prefer a pole with no right or wrong way so as not to bother your head with it . 🙂
