Angling Trust & Canal & River Trust Stillwater Championship Qualifier – Blythe Waters
As often happens in still misty conditions followed by a windless sunny day, the fishing becomes difficult and patchy. This proved to be the case at the Angling Trust and Canal and River Trust Stillwater Championship qualifier held at Blythe Waters on Saturday 19th September 2015, with 29 competitors taking part.Ben Smith had by far the best weight of the day from section B peg B33 on Bridge pool.
Ben weighed in 50.54 kilo caught on groundbait and maggot fished in the margin. He virtually had the match sewn up with 8 carp in the first hour, followed by a further 10 fish in the remainder of the match.
Ben joins father Nigel who qualified on the day from Bridge pool on Section A with 24.14 kilo.
Ben also had an extra duty – that of presenting a bottle of champagne from Canal and River Trust Fisheries and Angling Team to Gail Hooper of Blythe Fisheries.
Gail won 1st place in the Solihull Borough Council Awards ‘Solihull in Bloom’ Commercial section for the magnificent hanging baskets & troughs.
