TF_Smal1fishGot a match coming up soon on Laurel Pool, Cob House. Can anybody give me some clues what to expect and how best to approach it?

TF_iansi01354To be fair I would say you aren’t expecting a tough match as such just one you need to work harder at to sort out how to catch them rather than hook a duck it was at one stage. We spent 2 days down there recently albeit not on Laurel.
Its still got plenty of fish and 100lb+ will probably be needed to win depending on the standard of angler but it isn’t 100lb for everyone anymore!
Probably better for it in the long run (tin hat on and retreats a safe distance!)

TF_minimeatPretty spot on from Iansi. Laurel is a fair depth (maybe 7ft in parts) This tends to mean they easily come shallow so pellet or maggot for that line. Margins right under your feet works with corn. Now very similar to a lot of other fisheries, where there’s 50lb for everyone and 100lb winner, if you work at your peg. Still a decent match to be had, and decent sport. Just watch out for the “fishery manager”… He’s something else, and good luck,… enjoy.

lol you can say that again re the fishery manager.
Clubs have been fined £25.00 for not putting nets away tidy, and i have heard today that he’s now banned any towels / cloths at the fishery !!!!! what next ??The main problem at Cob House was the emptying, draining / de-silting of Wyatts pool, it’s not got the stock levels as it had 2 years ago. Not heard of any problems with Laurel pool, although Laugherne has also fished hard this season
good luck on your match -

TF_Dik82Fished our match last week. Yes the owner has banned towels which was hard to understand ended up taking my jumper off and using that, as rules go that’s a strange one.
Match was won with 86lb on the feeder down the edge into an empty corner, 2nd was 75lb caught mainly in the last hour on top 3, 3rd was 70lb fishing various depths at 16mtrs all on pellet. We had 14 fishing and everyone else struggled for over 30lb! Hope this helps

TF_Smal1fishMany thanks for the help. No towels ….I’ve heard some things in my time, but …… you’re pulling my leg surely. I look forward to meeting the fishery manager.

i wish i was pal, the blokes a complete idiot, i know of at least 4 clubs thats cancelled up to
14 matches between them next year because of him. I also heard of one secretary that tipped the £25.00 fine in pennies all over his desk lol -

TF_Smal1fishWe fished our match on Laurel Pool. Not a bad day but weights down, possibly due to sudden colder overnight weather. Main story though, fishery fine with us. We asked about the use of towels and they said it was ok … just don’t handle fish with them … (understandable). I enjoyed Cob House and will happily go back.
