I’m in the market for a Heavy Feeder rod for use on the Trent. I have Barbel rods (Fox Duo Lites 1.75/2.25) but want a rod that will throw a feeder further.

At present I am using an aging 14ft 2″ 130gm Dutchmaster which is ok with feeders up to about 90gms plus bait and chucks a lot further than the Barbel rods. It works ok and I’ve had fish to 9lb on it but I would like something with more of a parabolic fish playing action as it is a little stiff in the butt. I would also like a rod that will chuck a bigger feeder.

Daiwa’s don’t seem to go much above 150gm casting weight and I don’t want to pay £500. I like the look of the Tricast Trilogy X 13ft 6″ but wondered if the tips would be too light for the Trent as I use a 6oz tip on the DM.

Also considering the Matrix Horizon River with the hollow tip (half price at the moment) but unsure of the action as they look a bit “Dutchmaster” in design.

Both of the rods I have mentioned appear to have a CW of 200gm.

        All help gratefully received.

        Thanks

        David

Browning King feeder or Vipers have rods in the range that will cast 250g. Shimano Beastmaster up to 180g.

I’ve got a pair of the Browning Black Vipers 14ft MK2 at 160g and a pair of the 120g rods as well. The 160’s are really good rods for big feeders. Loads of power in the lower half but quite sensitive in the top 3rd, nice big eyes as well. To be honest they are pretty much the same as the King Feeders, probably just rebadged versions as the guy who designed the King Feeders left Browning and his name was signed onto the King Feeder rod, so they probably just rebadged and sold as a new model.
