        Hi Guys,

Look what I caught on my first attempt at match fishing!

This picture was taken by Andy the bailiff at Beaver Farm Fishery.

I came 10th out of 15 and my bag weighed 15lb. My only aim was to not come last and I achieved that 🙂 Now looking forward to my next match…

        Ralph.

Well done! I like the matting the fishery are using to make sure the fish do not end up in the grass or worse still on the hard clay soil. I was on the Glebe yesterday pool3 and some of the anglers did not have a clue how to deal with lively carp, the worst are the ones trying to take pictures who keep fish out of the water too long imo.

I agree, The fish were taken out of the keepnet, placed in the weighing sling and weighed, then immediately before they were sent ‘home’, the bailiff took that photograph. As this was my first match I was not sure how to handle;e the fish and I said as much to Andy, the fishery manager and bailiff, before we began. He said that was no problem and he would show me how to recover the fish from the keepnet and replace them by example. This he did and the fish were back in the water almost as soon as they were out.

Ralph, you will find the easiest way to handle the fish is to leave them in the landing net whilst you sort out the hook extraction. Once done simply tip the fish into the keep net.
Most good fisheries have mats and the ones in your picture look very good, I have never seen any with the edges lipped which will obviously help if the odd fish flips. They do sometimes go ballistic so it can happen to any one of us.
You may not have seen it yet but I have seen fish leap out of both landing nets and keep nets so be careful how you position yours!!
