Here we go again on this one, does anyone know who stocks it?
I struggled last year until someone put me on to home bargains but just called in to top up stock and they do Plumrose chopped ham now in the blue tin not the stuff in green tins!!
The tins are 200g too not the full size jobs meat cutters are made for.
        Any help much appreciated.

          Hi JohnH,

I don’t know whether the makers of plumrose have decided that their meat is just popular for fisherman, because some of the prices i have come across are silly.

Like yourself I have found the 200g tins for a pound at my local poundland, but can’t get any bigger sizes.
          .
For what it’s worth last season and this one I’ve been using a different brand, i now use the Sainsbury pork luncheon meat I can use it straight from the tin, no washing excess fat off and it stays on the hook well.

Now some might think It’s a bit extreme at £1.70 a tin but for that you get 340g of a good easy to cut meat.

I like it and will continue using it untill a better one comes along, so give it a try you wont be disapointed 🙂

Thanks for the feedback, the smaller tins are actually 250g and the old standard larger tins 340g. These are rare as the £1 shops seem to be the major source for outlet hence the 250g tins. I have actually just located some green 250g plumrose at another cheap outlet complex near work for £1. I think the Coop Sainsbury and Morrisons home brand is the only way to go for the larger tins now, unless someone knows otherwise.

Another thumbs up for Sainsburys Pork Luncheon Meat. By far the best on the market at the moment. My local store has to stock specially for the number of fishermen that buy it. 🙂
Beware the COOP stuff. Used to be good, but last Summer had too many tins where the fat content was so high it would turn to mush in the meat cutter. 🙁

I buy 18 tins from sainsburys at £30.60 use voucher for £ 3 off.
                18 tins £27.60=£1.53 tin.

I pick up 4 tins a week in Morrison’s (there own brand)on our weekly shop. They are £1.49 each(300g)and are IMHO the same meat as Plumrose and as I seem to keep getting £5 off vouchers for our next shop,in my mind the 4 tins only cost me 96p.lol
