It might be cheaper to incorporate into your home contents insurance. I do mine with direct line and it covers cameras, fishing gear, lap tops etc. These are all portable devices of reasonable value. If you have specific high value items you can list and cover them too. The increased costs for this are low. Never under insure, its just not worth the head aches if you do have to claim. I have always found insurance companies to be helpful if you do not cut corners.

Lots of the dedicated angling insurance companies have gone now due to the sheer number of false claims made against the policies. The only dedicated policy I have seen recently is one from the Angling Trust’s website (on the sponsors/offers page) which was reasonably priced compared to a lot of other options. Household policies have so many small print “get out” clauses that they are almost impossible to get a pay out unless it is stolen from a locked room inside the actual house (which has to be alarmed with CCTV etc). A lot of the household add-ons will have clauses in them such as £1000 maximum (not per item but total) for sporting equipment or not covered in use (but would be covered if sat on the ground next to you if using a different item), down to not covering if kept in a outbuilding not directly attached by bricks & mortar to the actual property itself (i.e. actual part of the house) and secured by 5 lever deadlocks.
