        PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY

FISHERY REPORT – WEEK ENDING 15/11/09

Last week 98 rods caught 299 fish for an average of 3.05.

Cocks Close has been in great form this week producing a lot of big fish and exceptional catches despite the wet and windy conditions.

The best fish of the week was a 16lb 8oz rainbow caught by Alan Beckett of Wythall who was fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and he took it on a Cats Whisker fished on an intermediate line. Kevin Brooks of Tamworth took a 12lb 11oz rainbow (see photograph attached) from a boat on Cocks Close and this one fell to an Ace of spades Lure. Mr P Court of Balsall Common took an 11lb 9oz fish on a white Lure and Mark Morton of Water Orton took an 11 pounder from the bank of Cocks Close and this one fell to a Bloodworm pattern. Mr M Quinney of Lapworth caught six fish from the bank of Cocks Close and this included a 6lb brown trout which was safely released, these all fell to a green/orange Fritz Lure.

On the Members’ waters Park Meadow is still the pick of the pools although Great Pool and Hall Pool are improving. On the Park Meadow pool Stuart Marston of Nuneaton took four from a boat including fish to 4lb and these came to either Cats Whisker or black Tadpoles.

The hotspots have been the old boat jetty and the high bank of Cocks Close. Park Meadow has fished well along the far side into the shallow water and Great Pool is best to the left of the jetty down into the shallows.

Top flies are Cats Whiskers, Bloodworm, black Tadpole, Fritz Lures, Damsel Nymph, orange Lures and black or red Buzzers.
