        REPORT
Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society’s 15 Championship match of the season, postponed from before Christmas when the venue was frozen, was fished last weekend at Higham Lane Fishery, near Hinckley, by 20 hardy competitors.

Fishing peg 8, Malc Munn was the first angler to hook a fish, and continued as the only angler in the match to regularly have indications throughout the day. His 15 carp catch, all taken on red maggot presented at range on straight bomb, weighed in at 70 lb 14 oz to not only give him a clear win but nearly doubled the weight of the runner up. In contrast, Carl Henrick (peg 25) had to wait nearly 2 hours before he caught his first fish, but then baiting with sweet corn he landed the odd carp until the final whistle to end with 37 lb 4 oz for second place, 7 taken on straight bomb, one on the pole.

Brian Leafe (peg 3) caught three carp on sweet corn for 27 lb 4 oz for third place, followed by Anthony White (23 lb 12 oz), John Adamson (22 lb 4 oz) and Mick Lager (22 lb) for the next three places.

With three matches remaining, the Championship leaders are: Paul Richardson 195 points, Carl Henrick 187, Malc Munn 168, Brain Leafe 164, Dave Kent 160, John Adamson 155, Mick Lager 138, Steve Wilcock and Ivan Carrier each with 118.

The next match, for the Shipstone Cup, will be at Dynamite Baits Makins (Lizard and Lagoon), Sunday 7th February.
