Well the December edition of MF has just dropped trough the door and whilst making a coffee, I thought I’d take a glimpse at this month’s editorial.

I applaud Alex’s bold comments asking for greater innovation and think it should create some interesting discussion. While I’m not necessarily going to buy all the latest & greatest gear, I’ve noticed the innovation slowdown for quite a while and had similar thoughts on where the next thing is coming from.

It’s understandable that manufacturers want a decent pay back for their investment into R&D, but rebadging and rehashing tackle just to make it look like the company is still innovative hasn’t washed for some time now with many of us.

That said, I also agree that it’s difficult to see how the manufacturers can come up with something different, but isn’t that what makes them innovative?

The biggest innovations often come from methods rather than equipment. The kit then adapts to support the innovations. Might be worth looking to the bankside for innovations, not manufacturers.
