Another excellent week at Rutland Water for both bank and boat anglers with lots of heavy bags recorded. The best fish of the week fell to boat angler Alex Urquhart of Hinckley. Alex caught a superb 7lb 12 5/8oz Rainbow near the Sailing Club on a black buzzer. Two notable bags this week came from Jim Gamble and his son Tom from Willoughby Waterleys, Leics. They landed 8 fish between them for 28lb 8oz, including a 5lb 15oz Rainbow. The other notable bag was from M French of Stanley, County Durham who managed 8 fish for 29lb including a 6lb Rainbow.Most areas are producing good quality fish with several anglers reporting seeing fish moving around the margins. Boat anglers have been taking fish on floating and midge tip lines with diawl bachs, crunchers, buzzers and also dries.

This match was fished on Saturday 8 June with several 8 fish limits recorded in overcast conditions. Julian Hubbard took the biggest fish prize with a fish weighing 3lb 14oz.1st John Tattersfield & Mark Harrison 16 fish for 36lb 7oz

13 Anglers took part in this week’s match with Empingham’s Richard Cooper winning on the night with 8 fish for 17lb 8oz including a 3lb 15oz Brown. Geoff Wanless was second with 6 fish for 15lb 11oz. Barnsley angler Warren Langridge took third place with 6 fish for 13lb 5¼oz. The biggest fish was a 4lb 2¼oz Rainbow taken by Keith Jones of Peterborough. Cutting Trophy 7 June
This match was fished on a fine, clear evening with a chilly North Easterly wind. Congratulations to Dave Porter who ran out an easy winner with his catch taken on dry hoppers. He pipped Rob Teasdale by one ounce to take the prize for the best fish. Dave’s fish had been feeding mainly on pink shrimp. This was quite a good result considering the conditions. Fish week 657 (season 10,592) Returns 217 (2,109) Rod average 3.02(5.02)The biggest fish of the week was caught by season ticket holder Chris McLeod of Cambridge. Chris caught a fin perfect Rainbow of 7lb 2oz whilst boat fishing at the Dam Tower on a Di 7 line with an orange blob. The biggest bag of the week was once again caught by Bob Wallinger of Leicester. Bob caught 8 fish for 30lb 1oz on a di 3 line with a silver tube from the Dam Tower drifting through the Boils.
The brisk north easterly winds have influenced fishing this week. Bank anglers have found fishing challenging. Marlow Stones, South Dam and Pylon Point have been fishable and have produced some good fishing with the best methods being floating lines with black buzzers or red holographic diawl bachs.
Boat anglers have had the best sport with G,D,A and Q buoys, south dam, Gaynes Cove, Sludge Bank and Hill Farm being the most productive and consistent areas of the reservoir. The best methods have been floating lines with buzzers, diawl bachs, damsel or pheasant tail nymphs or Di3, Di5 or Di7s with blobs, boobies, silver tubes and cats whiskers.

Pitsford Water continues to fish well from both the bank and boats with fish starting to come to damsel patterns as well as nymphs and dries.Plenty of hard fighting fish have been reported and a cautionary tale from season ticket holder Mr Bowman who put his G Loomis rod down in the boat only to see it pulled over the side by a lively trout. England Youth angler Fen Oakley fished with England lady angler Yvonne Webb bringing 25 fish to the boat on a mixture of dries and buzzers.
Last Saturday saw the AMFC Group 4 match where 22 anglers caught 114 fish for a rod average of 5.18. The match was won by GWFFA ‘B’ team with 40 fish for 98lb 14oz including time bonus. Top rod on the day was Clive Chatwin of GWFFA with 8 fish for a total weight, including time bonus, of 24lb 6oz. Clive also had the biggest fish of the match, a Rainbow of 3lb 12oz. The best Rainbow of the week was a fish of 8lb 7oz taken by Mr D Cook.
The best bank areas are Rigbys, Pines and Holly Bush, whilst boat anglers should try the Small Half, Flats and Pitsford Creek.

With the warmer weather finally showing the fishing just gets better.
Boat anglers continue to have a fantastic time. Lots of fish have been taken on dries, klinkhammers, Shipmans and hoppers – all are taking good fish in the 3-4lb range. Mr Turnall had 13 fish on small c.d.c’s. Lots of fish in the 5lb mark have been returned. Kevin Daykin of Hollowell had the best fish of the week – a good 6lb 2oz Rainbow caught on buzzers.The bank can be a hit and miss affair. Both the platforms and the Dam are quite productive one day and more difficult the next. John Smith and M Spencer caught off the Platforms.
Anglers wanting to fish lures will find plenty of action with damsels, blobs and cats whisker.
