Fish week 450 (season 718) Returns 95 (152) Rod average 4.73(4.72)
The second week of the season at Grafham Water has equalled the opening week with a rod average of 4.73 and good numbers of over wintered fish between 3lb and 5lb caught.Boobies on fast sink lines worked well in various colours with black and green most popular. White lures were successful. Minkies, blobs, various nymph patterns, including buzzers also caught fish on a variety of lines.
The most prolific areas have been around G Buoy, Marlow Jetty, Pylon Point and Hill Farm and off the Seat just beyond the Sailing Club. Mr Britten of Newark took 8 fish for 26lb including a best fish of 4lb 2oz. Eileen and Clive Chatwin, season ticket holders from Nuneaton, had an excellent day, each landing eight fish. Eileen won the day with a total bag weight of 20lb 1oz to Clive’s 19lb 3oz. Bob Wallinger of Hinckley had two fish over 4lb in his six fish bag. Whilst W Nash had a Rainbow of 5lb and Paul Summerville the best Rainbow of the week at 5lb 2oz.

Fish week 572 (season 945) Returns 135 (225) Rod average 4.2(4.2)
In only the second week of the season the fishery is in fantastic form with most anglers catching several top quality Rainbows and some superb over wintered fish are putting in a hard fighting appearance. Many anglers are enjoying some real red letter days bringing 20 plus fish to the boat, contributing to the 4.2 rod average. The standard of our newly stocked fish is very high, many with lovely full fins and fighting fit. This week saw the introduction of some awesome double figure fish and already tales of anglers hooking and dropping monster Rainbows are coming in.
The general stamp of the fish is also pretty impressive with 57 fish being taken around the 4lb mark and over 100 taken at over 3lb. Dariksz Kaps from Kelmarsh took a lovely 6lb 8oz over wintered fish which put up a great fight.
Bank and boat fishing are both worth trying with some of the better fish showing just out of casting range of most bank anglers. The other bonus that comes with boat fishing at the moment is that you can access areas which are restricted from the shore and are less frequently fished.
Best methods include the usual early season favourites like Pitsford Pea, Viva or Booby on a sinking line but the buzzer and nymph fishing is really picking up with the warm weather we are enjoying. Teams of buzzer and diawl bach fished almost static on a floating line are proving very effective for some anglers.

Best boat areas Duffers, North Farm Bay, Bog Bay, Sailing Club bank.
Best bank areas North Fields Shore, Stilton Point, Duffers, the Gorse, the Gravels.

Fish week 341 (862 season) Returns 48 (126) Rod average 7.1(6.84)
Anglers are enjoying a fantastic start to the new season. This week has been outstanding with a rod average of 7.1 and a 16lb Rainbow (the best for a number of seasons) caught by Mick Griffin of Northampton.During the week G Hartley, Bob Day, J Spencer and D Moss all had great catches of 15 plus fish – all returned. Last weekend Mick Griffin and Chris Skillen (both of Northampton) had 30 fish between them. Mick’s biggest fish was a cracking 16lb Rainbow taken on a buzzer from a boat off the Ravensthorpe bank and Chris took a fish of 8lb.
With the warmer weather the buzzer hatch has been huge. Buzzers and diawl bachs, floating lines, Pitsford Pea and cats whisker on Di 3 lines are catching well. On Wednesday 21 March Ravensthorpe hosted a group from Staffordshire police. John Goodwin had a cracking 12lb Rainbow and returned a further 8.
