Anglian Water Reservoirs Report May 2010

        Rutland Water
        Fish week 2,775 (season 11,752) Returns 496 (2,261) Rod average 5.59 (5.19)
Lots of limits are coming out at Rutland Water with fish being caught in most areas. The best fish of the week fell to Josh Bowman who netted a 6lb 10oz Brown from a boat up the North Arm. Josh, aged 22, is from Windsor and took this lovely Brown on his first cast of the day. Josh and his father netted another seven fish under the guidance of local angler Dave Doherty.

The best Rainbow of the week fell to Dave Shipman whilst fishing in the Bob Church Classic last Wednesday. Dave weighed in a 4lb 10oz specimen.

Weather conditions have not been at their best with very cold north easterly winds and some wet spells. Some fish have been hanging off the shoreline making some areas difficult for bank anglers. Fish have been caught late in the evening in a few areas. Prospects look good with some sensational buzzer hatches. However, due to the cold winds not many fish are showing on the surface yet. There have been many reports of Hawthorn flies around but no sign of fish feeding on these so far. More fish are being stocked this week.

Don’t forget the Tuesday Night Boat League starts this week.

        Pitsford Water
        Fish week 662 (5,361) Returns 329 (1,443) Rod average 2.0 (3.7)

On Saturday 8 May Pitsford Water hosted the 31st Water Industries Game Fishing Championship.

15 teams of 6 anglers per team took part. It was the biggest competition that Pitsford has hosted for many years. Eight water companies and five Environment Agency regions and one team from British Waterways battled it out. Anglers fished the bank from 10am to 4 pm, (with all of the bank in use it was closed to other anglers not in the competition). The reservoir was split into six sections and the teams were put into a draw as to which section each angler fished, so each team had a member in each section.
Six Section stewards controlled the match. Fishing was hard with a very cold North East wind and rain; despite this the rod average was just under 2 fish per rod.

Team Anglian Water had some very strong anglers; they all worked very hard as a team which was shown in the results, they won it! Fisheries and Sites manager Jon Marshall was joint individual runner up, he managed to catch 8 by 1.30pm which gave the team a tremendous boost. Top individual was Ian Burton from Severn Trent Water, Ian caught his 8 fish by 11.30am on the Pines in C section.
Ben Bayliss Environment Agency North West region took the best fish at 4lb 8oz.

Each team carried a travelling reserve, this was a separate match to the main one. They fished from boats in Pitsford’s small half. Winning the reserves Match was Gareth Thomas from Anglian Region EA. He caught 8 fish wei
