Fish week 532 (Season 18,226) Returns 154 (5,199) Rod average 3.45 (3.5)Good numbers of limits have been taken by boat anglers this week, however, the best fish of the week was a 5lb 3oz Rainbow taken from the bank by John Wadham.
Boat anglers have been taking stock fish from the main basin near the aerators, and drifts from the sailing club to the fishing lodge. Many of these fish were around the 2lb mark and had been feeding on daphnia, this was also the case with the 30 plus fish taken by visiting anglers Robbie Dodds and Gareth Tilley. The pair came down to fish Rutland from Lanchester, Durham, last Saturday and generously donated their 16 retained fish to the lodge to raise money for charity.
Boat anglers seeking grown on fish travelled down to the bottom of both arms. Father and son boat pair Simon and Elliott Guthrie ventured down the South Arm and came up trumps with 6 fish for 18½lb. The best fell to Elliott who managed a very fit looking Rainbow of just under 4lb. This fine specimen was taken on sparse patterned damsel nymphs on a floating line. Simon mentioned that they saw some very big fish moving on that day, however the following day the wind had changed, making the fishing difficult with the water colouring up.
Shallow water was also the place to be for bank anglers John Wadham and Roger Marshall who had some prime fishing off the shoreline up the North Arm. John added the best fish of the week a Rainbow of 5lb 3oz to his impressive collection for this season. Roger returned to the fishing lodge with a nice bag of Rainbows with two around the 4lb mark and the rest between 2½lb to 3lb plus. These fish were feeding heavily on corixa with the odd damsel nymph also making an appearance; dry flies and emergers were the successful patterns.
Fish are in most cases reluctant to stay around the shoreline, even the 2,000 Rainbows stocked off the Transformer and Green Bank shoreline last Thursday quickly moved out into the deeper water virtually straight away. Around 7,250 fish have been stocked in the last 5 weeks with another 6,600 planned.
All boats are booked on 6 September for the final of the Scierra Pairs. There are a few boats available for Saturday 5th.
The Anglian Water Autumn Pairs match is taking place on Saturday 10 October. This is a popular match with sections for Rudder and non Rudder. Give the lodge a call on 01780 686441 to book a place.

John Maitland
We are very saddened to hear that John Maitland passed away last week after a long illness. John moved to Rutland many years ago and was a renowned angler who will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure to meet him. He enjoyed great sport and excelled at fishing on ‘dry fly’. His many successes included winning a highly prized Sage rod as top individual in the Anglian Water Four Man Team event. Our condolences go to John’s family at this sad time.Information for all anglers
An invasive species of shrimp (Dikerogammarus villosus), commonly known as DV, has been found at Pitsford Water reservoir in Northamptonshire. The presence of this species in the water does not pose any threat to human health. Water from the reservoir is treated to a very high standard before being supplies to local homes for drinking.
It is important that anglers continue to follow the Check, Clean, Dry procedures in place for the preservation of our environment and sport.

Grafham Water is fishing exceptionally well for the time of year with a rod average of 4.25. Both bank and boat anglers are enjoying great sport and the majority of fish are around the 2lb mark. The south end of the dam has continued to fish well for the bank anglers along with Deep Water Point. The best bank methods are floating lines and Midge tips with small Hares Ears, crunchers and Diawl Bachs fished close to the margins. The Willows have also produced some good results.
Boat anglers are enjoying good sport in a number of areas with consistent fishing mainly on intermediate lines with lures, shrimp, crunchers, hares ears and nymphs. The south Dam, G Buoy, Savages Creek, Gaynes Cove, Deep Water and Pylon Points, the Seat and Central Drifts through the middle have all produced good consistent sport.

Fish week 165 (season 8797) Returns 60(1876) Rod average 2.75 (4.69)Fish have now moved out into deeper water but are still in the top layers feeding on the huge daphnia clouds. Try fishing midge tip or intermediate lines with fab’s or booby patterns with diawl bachs and crunchers particularly in red or green.
Drifts in open water in the main basin are producing, as are short drifts across the Narrows, but don’t fish too deep as the fish seem to be in the top three feet.
Bank anglers can still catch with the next areas being the Pines and the Cliffs with diawls again being the most effective pattern.

Anglian Water Rudder match 22 AugustRavensthorpe Reservoir
Fish week 243(Season 10,996) Returns 74(2,527) Rod average 3.2 (4.3)
The fish are still up and on the feed at Ravensthorpe making for some very exciting and challenging dry fly sport.Small Bob’s Bits, Shipmans Buzzer and crippled midge patterns are the order of the day with claret and light orange being the good colours. Presentation is key particularly in calm conditions so short casts from a drifting boat with a degreased fin tippet is the most effective method on the dries.
Several anglers have enjoyed catches of 20 plus fish on the above tactics this week drifting across the main basin or middle of the reservoir.
Ravensthorpe Reservoir continued
Last Sunday Ravensthorpe hosted the Mick Griffin Challenge. Calm conditions on the day made for some very difficult fishing but the anglers still managed a rod average of 2.1 with only three blanks recorded from 31 fishing. Mick Clark took top spot with four fish for 9lb 1oz and seasoned veteran Vic Byrne came second with four fish for 8lb 7oz. Chris Young and Alex Ferguson shared third place with four fish for 8lb 5oz.
The fish are in great condition with fantastic tails and have slimmed down to an average weight of around 2lb 4oz putting up a very good fight even in the warmer water.
Bank fishing is best off the Dam but has slowed considerably with morning until noon providing the best chance.
