Fish week 775 (Season 19,001) Returns 186 (5,385) Rod average 4.16 (3.52)Boat anglers recorded plenty of fish last week including many limits with a very high rod average of 5.23. Fish are generally out in the deeper, cooler water of the reservoir, influencing the bank rod average which remains fairly quiet at 1.55. Fish were caught very quickly for those who sought out the aerators in the main basin. Anglers fishing in the Tuesday Night Boat league opted to fish the aerators for a change and ten anglers netted 47 fish in just over three hours! Richard Cooper of Empingham won the overall title in style recording his third consecutive victory.
Most fish were falling to various lures from blobs, boobies, snakes and tube flies throughout the week, however, Leicester angler Steve Buck rolled back the years when he fished wet flies, and had an enjoyable session fishing Silver Invicta, and wingless Wickhams away from the aerators taking drifts up to the line of buoys at the Dam.
Mainly stock fish around 2lb are showing, though there are signs of early season silvered up fish finally being caught. Not many boats headed to the bottom of either of the arms, those who did faired better down the North Arm with fish caught at Tim Appletons and even more so at the Transformer, which saw two lots of fish stocked last week. The same number of fish was stocked at the Green Bank but it seems no boats opted to fish there.
Rutland has again hosted anglers from all over the UK and Europe but this week we welcomed Brendan Griffin on holiday from Perth, Australia. Brendan borrowed a drogue from one of our Rangers and enjoyed half a day’s boat fishing with three 2lb plus Rainbows to show for his efforts.
Catching your very first fish on a fly that you have tied yourself is rewarding – a memorable achievement for Andrew Williamson from Grantham last Thursday. But this one has to be unique – family pet parrot Bertie the African Grey obliged by plucking out one of his red tail feathers, which combined with ostrich feathers, landed Andrew a 2lb Rainbow.
All boats are booked on 6 September for the final of the Scierra Pairs. There are a few boats available for Saturday 5th. Predator lure boats start from 31 August with boat demand high – please check with the lodge for availability before making your journey.
The Anglian Water Autumn Pairs match is taking place on Saturday 10 October. This is a popular match with sections for Rudder and non Rudder. Give the lodge a call on 01780 686441 to book a place.

Richard won £50 in tackle vouchers and a free mid week boat. The biggest fish in the league, taken way back in week 3, was Rob Teasdale’s superb 7lb 6oz Brown which won Rob £10 in tackle vouchers. Thank you to everyone who supported this popular league – with a total of 169 rods catching 398 fish. Thanks to Sid’s Fish and Chip shop, Stamford, for supplying the after match suppers.
In response to popular demand there will be a Tuesday Night ‘friendly’ this Tuesday 25 August, commencing at 5.30.
4,000 Rainbows were stocked down the arms again recently, bringing the season’s total to 73,450 fish. Finally, as mentioned early season silvered up fish are starting to show. As the temperatures start to cool and the days shorten we should see more over wintered fish appearing. In the next few weeks demand for boats will increase – anglers are already practicing for the forthcoming Scierra Pairs which will be fished on Sunday 5 September. Midweek

Fish week 771(season 17,889) Returns 224 (4,374) Rod average 3.44 (4.09)The best Rainbow of the week, and season to date weighed 6lb 11oz and was recorded by J Hickson of Colchester. The variable weather swinging from high winds one day to hot still the next has made fishing very unpredictable.
The bank anglers have enjoyed a great week at the South end of the Dam to the valve tower on floating lines with shrimp patterns and hares ears. Some anglers are taking up to twelve fish up to 5lb, all catch and release.
Boat fishing has again been good at the South end of the Dam especially from drifting boats into open water. Most anglers have been using an intermediate line to fast glass lines with boobies, tequila blobs, and hares ears. Floating lines with dry flies have proved successful as the fish have not been that deep, only around two feet.
Grafham regular Norman Rushton produced a great Brownie this week from Savages Creek. He landed it after a hard fight on a floating line with a wet fly jinked to float.
Areas producing fish this week include the Willows to G Buoy, 100 metres out from the shoreline. Some nice fish have been coming out of Savages Creek up to 4lb on dries and also from the Seat, approximately 100 metres out.

Fish week221(Season 10,974) Returns 54 (2,507) Rod average 4.0 (4.3)Ravensthorpe continues to fish well. Dry fly fishing is still accounting for most of the fish but the washing line with red diawl bachs and crunchers is also working well.
Charlie Watts opted for the washing line to land 12 fish on Friday, fishing from a drifting boat and pulling them across the surface. Mick Spencer opted for the washing line with diawl bachs and caught 9 fish, again drifting boat was best.
Mr Turner fished small black dries from a drifting boat in the main bowl and landed five nice fish.
