A big thank you
To anglers who have donated their catches to be sold locally throughout the year to raise money for a ‘good cause’. This year Rutland raised £2.7k and Grafham £1.3k and we have purchased two defibrillators for use at Rutland Water and one at Grafham Water. This means that at Rutland Water we now have one at the fishing lodge, watersports centre and bird watching centre, and at Grafham we have one at the fishing lodge and sailing club. This would not have been possible without the hard work of the wardens who prepared the fish for sale locally. We have a special offer of two four fish permits for just £25 at all of our trout fisheries until 31 December, a saving of £8 on normal prices of £16.50 per day. This promotion is based on one angler only, fishing two separate days.
Rutland and Grafham lodges are open in December Wednesday – Sunday inclusive 9am to 2pm (closed 24,25 & 26 December).
Rutland Water
Subject to weather conditions a few boats will be available at Rutland Water until the end of the week. Pre booking is essential – call 01780 686441, 9am to 2pm Wednesday – Sunday; Monday and Tuesday call 07885 484113, 9am to 3.30pm.
For further updates see http://www.anglianwater.co.uk/leisure/fishing-newsGordon Alleyne, Dave Porter and Graham Wright were amongst those taking fish last week. Gordon took Rainbows up to 4½lb. Graham had one Rainbow and returned four Browns up to 6lb last Tuesday. One or two fish have been moving in the calm water when there has been an offshore wind.
Steady numbers of fish are being taken off the bank with an early morning start well worthwhile. Fish are feeding close in on corixa, damsel nymphs, some fly and Caddis. Some of the Caddis found in stomach contents have been up to 1½ inches long. Various methods have been catching fish including nymphs, diawl bachs, cruncher, hares ear fished on a floating line. Minkies and suspender type patterns are working in some areas. Failing that black lures, tadpoles, humungus are also taking fish.
Grafham Water
Grafham Water will remain open to both boat and bank anglers, until Sunday 2 February. Fishing and boat charges will be the same during January as they are in December.
Bob Church was delighted with the 15lb 1oz Zander he caught at Grafham on a small joey mackerel recently.
Pitsford Water and Ravensthorpe Reservoir
Pitsford Fishing Lodge is now closed, re-opening February 2014. Bank fishing at Pitsford and Ravensthorpe continues to 31 December.
