Ravensthorpe Reservoir will be the first of our fisheries to open on 28 February, followed by Pitsford Water on 1 March, Grafham Water 8 March and Rutland Water 15 March.
Open House at Pitsford Water 22 February – fishery opens 1 March
The Open House at Pitsford Water was very popular and season permits were in great demand. Representatives from leading tackle suppliers including Snowbee and Guide were on site talking about their new ranges and anglers were able to get outside and brush up on their casting skills. Peter Hartley was testing rods and on hand to offer tuition.
Fisheries Manager Jon Marshall said “it was great for all of our Senior Wardens to meet anglers from across the region and have a chat about the new season. Adrian Muggleton of Gretton won the draw for a Gold Season ticket from last season’s catch returns. Adrian can now look forward to fishing the 2014 season for free!”
Ravensthorpe opens 28 February
Plans for the new season are well under way. Pike anglers have already been out on the water with fish being taken on the lure as well as dead baits.
Trout fishing commences on 28 February with expectations high for some good sized fish.
Grafham Water opens 8 March
Rutland Water opens 15 March
It will be an early start to the season with Rutland Water opening on Saturday 15th March. Stocking will commence very early in March with Rainbows and Browns.
The wet, very mild winter has seen the water level just a fraction off maximum capacity and there have been some very good hatches of buzzer occurring on a regular basis, and birds such as Grebe and little Grebes continue to feed on last season’s fry in certain areas of the reservoir.
Any overwintered fish showing at the start of the season should be in tremendous condition, hopefully providing anglers with the exceptional sport that was witnessed throughout the 2013 season.
