Kevin Glenn’s journey all the way from Northumberland to Rutland Water was rewarded with the best fish of the week – a superb Rainbow of 7lb 12¼oz taken on a tequila booby and intermediate line. Other recent big fish have included a 6lb 13oz Rainbow taken by Peter Andrews who reports ”We enjoyed some brilliant buzzer fishing at Rutland Water during our 3 days, averaging 10 fish a day”. Dave Mitchell landed and returned a large Brown estimated at between 9 and 10lb. Dave fished a size 12 hopper ‘dry’ at New Zealand Point. This fish fought hard, taking Dave well into his backing before being returned safely to the reservoir to fight another day. When he weighed the fish it ‘bottomed out’ his 8lb scales with ease.It has been another good week at Rutland Water with boat and bank anglers enjoying some quality sport. Nymphs and buzzers have accounted for a large percentage of the fish on floating lines and midge tips from both bank and boat. When conditions have been right anglers have reported good late rises of fish, notably on the Dam, Old Hall to Green Bank and Barnhill Creek. During these periods anglers have enjoyed exciting sport using dry fly, successful patterns include Bobs Bits, Shipmans buzzers and Hares Ear.
The main basin continues to provide plenty of action with various sinking lines teamed with blobs and boobies. Reports have also been coming through that some large fish are being seen at the bottom of the arms, with some quality fish being taken in Manton Bay in the South Arm and Tim Appletons/Burley Reaches in the North Arm. The reservoir continues to fish well in many areas with the Finches bank to Armley Wood and Dickensons Bay in the North Arm providing consistent sport. In the South Arm the Lodge to East Creek, Sailing Club Bay, Yellowstone and Old Hall to Green Bank have been producing plenty of fish.
This year’s pin fry are becoming more prevalent in the margins which could soon lead to some challenging fishing if the trout switch onto them. Sedge are also being seen in some areas on the lake which should keep plenty of fish in the margins for the bank anglers. Teamed with the shrimp, daphnia and corixa the trout have a veritable feast on offer at the moment.

Grafham Water continues to fish well for both bank and boat anglers in spite of the unsettled weather. The bank anglers have enjoyed most success from Marlow Stones, but also the South end of the Dam which has produced some stunning fish. Tim Ivory took the best fish of the week – a cracking 7lb 1oz Rainbow on a floater with a single cruncher. Tim’s bag of six fish went to 23lb 6oz. The best bag of fish this week was taken by Nick Evans from Ramsey. Nick had 7 fish for 26lb 7oz all taken on a floater and shrimp patterns. The boat anglers have enjoyed good sport too, with the Dam, Gaynes Cove, the Seat and the Willows all producing fish throughout the week. The favoured methods seem to be floaters, or intermediates fished washing line style with a small booby on the point, and nymphs either crunchers or diawl bachs.
The first of this season’s fry have started to show up in the harbour now, so look out for some good fry feeders later on in the season.

Pitsford Water continues to fish well even with the changeable weather conditions. The rod average is a very healthy 3.7 with many fish taken in the 4 – 6lb bracket.Mark Benstead and John Fletcher had a good day from a boat taking many fish with 7 fish over 4lb taken in the Bog Bay area.
The stronger winds have allowed anglers wishing to fish ‘on the rudder’ to ply their trade and none better at this method than Brian Moore who had two very productive days with his best an 8 fish bag for over 22lb.
Last Sunday members of the Mid Northants Anglers fished a pairs match with 14 anglers catching 75 fish for a rod average of over 5.3.
Top pair was Simon Le Hane and Les Yarnall who caught 16 fish for 36lb 3oz.
Barry Jones and Terry Bayes took second place with 15 fish for 33lb 1oz. Third place was taken by Michael Farrell and Grant Gibson with 12 fish for 24lb 14oz. The biggest fish on the day was taken by Matthew Eggleton with a cracking Rainbow of 5lb 2oz.
The best areas to fish are the Flats, Sermons and Gravels for the boats and Pines, Gorse and Pitsford Creek. Best methods to try are floating or intermediate lines with hares ear and crunchers, washing line with FAB’s and teams of buzzers. Also worth trying are damsel patterns as the Naturals are now appearing in numbers.
Best Rainbow 5lb 2oz taken by Matthew Eggleton.
Best Brown 3lb taken by Mick Tracy.
Best methods Floating lines, hares ear and crunchers catching well, washing line with F.A.B’s, buzzers, damsels starting to appear.

Fish week 270 (season 4,005) Returns 58 (937) Rod average 5.0 (4.2)
Ravensthorpe Reservoir continues to produce some terrific sport with fish in the top of the water.Floating lines are the order of the day with dries working well. Olive or black klinkhammers used in combination with skinny buzzers have worked a treat for Mick Griffin and Graeme Smith with around 30 fish to the boat. Fiery hoppers and crunchers worked well for the Evans brothers who had a great day accounting for 25 spirited Rainbows.
England Youth angler Fen Oakley shared a boat with Yvonne Webb and the pair managed over 25 fish on a variety of methods including small dries and nymphs on the washing line.
The bank fishing continues to produce reasonable sport although the Dam is still really the best prospect and can be tricky in the stronger westerly winds.
Best Rainbow 5lb 8oz.

Best boat areas Tall Willows, Coton End.
Best bank areas The Dam.
Mid week boat winner Gregg Hartley of Northampton.
