Fish week 398 (season 41,430) Returns 127 (9,530) Rod average 3.13 (4.34)
There were many specimen fish caught again this week with the best Brown tipping the scales at 8lb 14oz for James Morgan of Studham, Dunstable. The best Rainbow of the week weighed 8lb 10oz and was taken by Keith Jones of Peterborough whilst fishing in the Annual Fry Bashers match. Keith won the Fry Bashers and his Day Two bag at Rutland Water weighed 30lb 4oz.Paul Friend of Edith Weston, a former warden at Rutland, took the journey up the North Arm last Tuesday and netted a superb 6lb 6oz Rainbow whilst fishing along the many weed beds. Keith Jones of Wittering had a 5lb 9oz Rainbow off the top whilst fishing down the South Arm. This fish was taken off the top on floating fry in Manton Bay last Saturday.
Season ticket holder Al Owen fished with holidaying angler John Slavin from Renfrewshire in Scotland, a number of times last week and caught a number of fish (including limits), their best fish was a 6lb 1½oz Brown that fell to John. Most of their fish fell to rudder tactics and tube flies.
“Rutland at its best” were the chosen words of North East anglers Peter Blythe and Tony Nattrass. The pair enjoyed a great three day package with Friday their best day, taking six quality fish for 26lb 8oz and their best fish being a 6lb 3oz Brown. Other anglers singing the praises of Rutland and Grafham were brothers Tony and Peter Bevan from Wales. The pair were practicing and taking part in the ‘Fry Bashers’ match and have fished Rutland and Grafham for many years. Tony remarked that “This is the best ever fishing we have experienced – absolutely brilliant!”
Good numbers of fish, including many specimens have been reported, with limits around many areas of the reservoir reaching from the top of the North Arm, the fishing lodge frontage, then from the middle and bottom of the South Arm. Boat anglers have enjoyed lots of action. Bank anglers, although few in number, are catching fish along the Normanton bank, Sykes Lane and the peninsula, all depending on wind direction.
Prospects look very good with the chance of hooking a specimen Brown or Rainbow from many areas of the reservoir. Numbers of fish are still out in the main body of the water, though increasing numbers are starting to be caught along the weedbeds/shoreline. Tactics are varied with fish feeding on shrimp, snails, corixa and fry including perch up to 4 inches in length.
Predator fishing has varied from day to day with some boats having multiple catches of Zander in a day, a few pike are coming out but nothing outstanding to report.

Fish week 522 (season 20,950) Returns 182 (5,406) Rod average 2.86 (3.87)
Grafham Water is fishing well for both bank and boat anglers. During the past week boat anglers have had some great fishing on intermediate lines with Minkies, tubes, humungus boobies, diawl bachs and cats whiskers. The most productive areas for the boat anglers have been A,Q and G buoys, Savages Creek, Sanctuary Bay, Valley Creek, Gaynes Cove and the Sludge Bank/Seat.Bank anglers have also had a great week’s sport with the Dam again proving to be the most productive area. However, the Seat, Plummer bank and Perry Point have all produced good consistent fishing throughout the week on floating lines with GRHE, shrimp patterns, crunchers, pheasant tail nymphs, minkies and cats whiskers.
The heaviest bag of the week was caught by bank angler Nick Evans from Ramsey. Nick caught 8 fish weighing 27lb 12oz with his best fish a fin perfect Rainbow of 4lb 10oz. Nick caught this excellent bag of fish from the bowl of the Dam on a floating line with a Gold Head Hares Ear.

Fish week 158 (season 12,406) Returns 71(3,697) Rod average 2.2 (3.3)
Fishing has been challenging at Pitsford this week. There are plenty of fish both in the margins and across the main basin, but they are proving hard to tempt. This may be down to the mixed weather conditions or the fact that there is so much food available to them. The fish being caught are in super condition and full of fry, snails and corixa. The best Brown of the week was a 5lb specimen caught by Mr Heseltine whilst the nest Rainbow weghed 4lb 8oz and was taken by Ashley Butler.
The best methods are fry patterns fished on floaters around the weed or fished deep in the main bowl. Bank anglers should try the Sailing Club, Pines or the Cliffs.
Pike anglers Mr Blake and Mr Millwood reported having a great day with 7 good fish, the best of which went to 26lb on the scales.
Competition news
On Wednesday 16 October Pitsford Water hosted the Anglian Water versus the Environment Agency annual match. 46 anglers fished in very difficult conditions. A very disappointing 65 fish were caught. Special mention must go to Anglian Water Warden Mark Haycock who put in a great performance catching his 8 fish limit and winning the match comfortably. Mark will now represent Anglian Water in the WIGFIC final.Best Rainbow 4lb 8oz taken by Ashby Butler.
Best Brown 5lb taken by Trevor Heseltine.
Best methods Fry patterns on floating and sinking lines.
Best boat areas Main Bowl, around weedbeds.

Brown trout season ends on 29 October, any browns caught after this date must be returned back alive as quickly as possible.Ravensthorpe Reservoir
Fish week 94 (season 8,681) Returns 33 (1,847) Rod average 2.8 (4.7)
The fishing at Ravensthorpe has become a greater challenge this week and reflected on the rod average of 2.8.The fish are still up in the water and are often seen feeding at the surface but they are taking much smaller food items such as small black snails and small midges caught in the surface film.
Floating lines and small dries like Bob’s Bits or bibio hoppers can work well from a drifting boat on mild overcast days.
Minkie and small cats whisker have been the best flies this week. Fished around the weed beds and out in the middle of the reservoir. Fish don’t appear to be on the fry but are coming to the lures when cast at risers and stripped back.
Bank fishing has picked up slightly with fish coming to diawl bachs, hoppers and minkies from the Dam and there are a few areas on the Ravensthorpe bank which are fishable.
Best Rainbow 3-4lb.
Best methods See report.
Best boat areas Main basin, middle of reservoir.
Best bank areas Dam.
