Fish week 123 (season 43,584) Returns 54 (10,297) Rod average 2.27 (4.28)The latest news from Rutland Water is that 12 boats will remain on the water until Sunday 8 December. Keep an eye on Fishery News and also on http://www.anglianwater.co.uk/leisure/fishing-news for further updates.
Good numbers of fish are being caught from both the bank and boat. Bank anglers are catching along the Peninsula from the Finches all the way round to Yellowstones.
Tactics have been varied with floating lines in conjunction with all of the following – fry patterns, minkies etc and floating fry, small nymphs, general purpose patterns, diawl bach, crunchers, hares ear and various black lures.
Fish are not really feeding hard at all on this season’s fry, although fry patterns are working, they seem to be very much pre-occupied with the good amounts of corixa close into the shoreline.
Boat anglers have caught down the North Arm again with a lot of fish out in the open water around the north tower and either side. Among the successful anglers was Adrian Baggerley who took five Rainbows up to 4lb, whilst season ticket holders Jim Watts and Martin Hearth had ten fish during the middle of last week.
Although out of season good Browns have been showing again, many in the 4-5lb plus bracket.
Predator fishing
Rutland Water’s biggest pike for a very long time came out last Friday with a superb specimen that sent the scales around to 33lb 4oz! This fantastic fish, which measured at 114cm long, was caught by Polish angler Artur. Artur was fishing for Zander at the time with a 15cm shad over deep water. Artur was very modest about the capture and claimed to be just fortunate to be in the right place at the right time, despite the fact that he was fishing for Zander. Other Pike caught last week included specimens up to 17lb. Numbers of Zander have again been caught with the average size around 5-6lb and a ‘low double’ caught on Saturday.Rutland Fur and Feather bank competition Sunday 8 December

This means half day permits are valid all day and day boats are just £18 or £16 for single man. All anglers who bought a Season ticket during 2013 are invited to ‘have a go’ and fish Catch and Release only free of charge (boat charges will apply). Anglers wishing to take a fish will need to buy a permit before fishing.
Anglers have enjoyed some good sport this week with 48% of the trout caught weighing 3lb or over. The best area for boat anglers was the North shore with Hill Farm, Hedge End, Rectory Bay and G Buoy all producing good consistent fishing. Best methods have been intermediate or floating lines with silver tubes, minkies, diawl bachs and GRHE.
Bank anglers have had a tremendous week fishing the north shore from the Stumps all the way to the northern end of the Dam. Once again floating or intermediate lines have been the preferred method with black and green lures, minkies, diawl bachs, GRHE and shrimp patterns all producing good consistent catch rates.
