Ravensthorpe Reservoir will be the first of our fisheries to open on 1 March, followed by Pitsford Water on 8 March, Grafham Water15 March and Rutland Water 29 March.
Open House at Grafham Water
Come and meet Anglian Water’s fisheries team from 10am to 3pm. Talk to the representatives from Hardy Greys, Snowbee and Wychwood/Leeda about their new ranges. Buff Headwear will also be attending. Season permits will be available and it’s a good opportunity to talk about the season, get some help with casting techniques and see the latest fly tying techniques.
The draw from last year’s season ticket catch returns will be held and the winning ticket will receive a Gold permit. Read all about it in next week’s Fishery News.
Ravensthorpe opens 1 March
Plans for the new season are well under way. Pike anglers have already been out on the water as, for the first time, Ravensthorpe has hosted February Pike fishing. Pike anglers have been able to take advantage of this new initiative from 16-24 February.
Trout fishing commences on 1 March with expectations high for some good sized fish. Last season Terry Vials, of Clipston, Market Harborough, landed the biggest fish of opening weekend. Terry caught a superb 11lb 7oz Rainbow from Catwalk Corner. The first day of the new season often sees some big over wintered fish in the net and in 2011 Mick Griffin took a whopping 12lb 6oz Rainbow during opening weekend.
Pitsford fishing lodge 01604 781350 will be taking boat bookings on behalf of Ravensthorpe until Ravensthorpe re-opens on 1 March. Boats are very popular and booking fast. Please book early to avoid disappointment
New boats at Grafham Water
We will gradually be replacing the Grafham Water fleet with the larger 16ft Coulam boats. You will see the first of the Rutland Water style boats arriving at Grafham in 2013.
