Fish week 440 (season 29,679) Returns 203 (8,929) Rod average 2.16 (3.35)
Unsettled weather did not stop anglers catching with the best recorded Rainbow of the week being a personal best for Oakham’s Matt Gregory. Matt brought the fish around to the fishing lodge on Monday and this superb conditioned specimen weighed in at 6lb 9oz. Jim Watts of Ryhall has been in form with four consecutive 8 fish limits recently.
Bank anglers are taking fish off the Peninsula, Normanton with good average sized fish around 3lb plus with Dave Porter netting a 5lb 4oz Rainbow.
Boat anglers caught a good number of fish with individual boats netting 10 fish last Tuesday in particular. Fish are now feeding hard on daphnia, shrimp, corixa and to a lesser extent one or two fry.Now that the winter restrictions are in place bank anglers will concentrate on the Peninsula, Whitwell, Sykes Lane and East Creek down to the dam.
Boats will fish around Old Hall up to Spud Bay, Berrybutts to Sailing Club and the Main Basin ie transformer, Finches and the North Arm. The water level has now dropped by a couple of feet, so it will not present the problem of last year regarding silt and mud. Still the best bet is to fish off the bank and cover more water any way ie to be more mobile.
Best Rainbow 6lb 9oz taken by Matt Gregory of Oakham.
Best Brown 7lb 1oz taken by Mike Barrett of Sheffield.
Best boat areas Berry Butts to Old Hall, the Main Basin, middle
of North Arm.Best bank areas The Finches, Whitwell, Old Hall Barn.

Fish week 523 (season 22,026) Returns 118(6,026) Rod average 4.4 (3.65)
Anglers are enjoying fantastic fishing at Grafham Water with a tremendous rod average of 4.4. Fish are still tight in on the banks taking mainly either shrimps or fry.Bank anglers are enjoying all the success with the North Shore from Hedge End through along the Dam and onto the Seat all producing large catches of quality fish. Paul Knight writes “I netted seven fish in a two hour session from the bank last Monday evening. The best was a Rainbow of 7lb 3oz – it took 20 minutes to land. Curiously it was 25.5 inches long – which is the same length as the 10lb 1oz specimen I caught in 2000 that now hangs on my wall”.
The most successful method for catching fish is with a floater, midge tip or slow glass with a minkie booby on the point and a couple of shrimp patterns in front of it.
Best boat areas Dam, G and D buoys, Willows, Deep Water Point,
Hedge End, Pylon Point.
Best bank areas Entire Dam, Willows, G bank, Deep Water Point.Best methods See report.
Please note the Brown trout season ends on 29 October. Any Browns caught must be returned safely to the water. Since 1 November the western end of the reservoir has been out of bounds for all fishing (bank and boat). Please see wardens or shop staff if you are unsure of the restrictions.

Although the colder weather has made fishing harder this week there has been an increase in the size of fish caught with plenty in the 3-4lb range and several fish of 5lb caught on fry patterns, corixa and snail patterns.Bank fishing is encouraging with fish feeding in the margins. The fish will start feeding freely with intermediate lines and fry patterns being effective.

A quieter week at Ravensthorpe as temperatures begin to fall. Those anglers braving the elements last week were rewarded with some great catches with a rod average of 4.2 for the week. Some boat anglers caught and released over 20 fish. The fish are deep down and dark minkies have been the best flies. Brown minkies in particular have been taking many fish.
Bank sport is slow but the odd fish has been caught and plenty have shown in warm spells with small midge hatches.
