The Angling Trust and Canal & River Trust Canal Pairs qualifier on the Gloucester Canal was fished between Hempsted and Pilot on Sunday 21st June with 34 pairs competing. It was again the Canals bream shoals that made up most of the weights with Nigel Baker (Devizes) coming out on top from noted peg 47 on Hempsted Bend with 12 bream for 26 lbs 8 oz.
The pegs in the 20’s opposite the garage continued to produce though with Walsall angler Robert Quinn on peg 23 running the winner close with 26 lbs, again bream on the groundbait feeder. It was tight when it came to the pairs result with Nigel Baker and Dave Clapton on 93 points taking the win, just edging out Steve Long and Nigel Evans, who were fishing in honour of local angler Roy Carter who passed away recently and who would have been Steve’s original partner.
