Drennan Team England Bring Home Double Bronze From World Championships

Drennan Team England have returned to home soil with two bronze medals after claiming a creditable third place in the World Championship team event, while five times World Champion Alan Scotthorne secured individual bronze.

The FIPSed 62nd World Nations Championships took place on the River Sava at Radece, Slovenia from 12th – 13th September 2015 with 37 countries competing.
The Drennan Team England squad consisted of: Will Raison, Sean Ashby, Des Shipp, Alan Scotthorne, Steve Hemingray, Callum Dicks and Joint Managers, Mark Downes and Mark Addy.

Day one saw Drennan Team England Manager, Mark Addy draw for the team. He was left very disappointed as he drew three unfancied pegs.
The depth of water was varied, deep in places but shallow in others, and the fish had moved to deeper water with England on shallow water pegs. As a result, the team struggled to record 33 points ending the day in 13th place.

Going into day two Callum made way for Steve, and the team knew how much hard work they needed to put in if they were to get a podium finish, but they never gave up hope and produced a fabulous performance across the board, finishing with 13.5 points. This result was enough to take third place and give the team a bronze medal.
Alan Scotthorne added to his incredible medal haul with an individual bronze. Drawing on a better part of his section, Alan was able to search for the bigger fish and unlike other anglers, was not forced to target the bream.

With the top three anglers tied on 2 points the final result was decided on weight.
Russia’s Yury Siptsov took gold with 36.939kg, Tams Walter of Hungary took silver with 27.447kg and Alan Scotthorne of Drennan Team England took bronze with 24.343kg to just push team mate Will Raison into 4th place.

Mark Addy stated: “On day one when I drew our pegs I was very disappointed as we had three pegs we didn’t really want. We drew further to the left on the shallow water and the fish moved to the deeper water. Alan had a down-end stream peg on A section and did very well to record just over 9kg. We were all disappointed with our first day and 33 points, and thought it would be impossible to pull it back even for bronze”.

“However on the second day we drew a lot better and had pegs on the deep water and scored 13.5 points. With the points added together it gave us a bronze medal. We didn’t change tactics and used Sensas groundbait, leam, maggots, casters and worms to target the bigger fish on two sections, and on the other three sections we targeted the smaller fish on maggots. We did well as a team to pull it back to get the bronze”.

Alan and Des recorded two fantastic section wins, Steve third section, Sean second section, and Des fifth section.
