Report on the “Jim Hemmings Memorial” Angling match held on Arrow Valley Lake on Saturday September 21st 2013.
A sell-out field of fifty anglers turned out for this annual match in memory of Redditch man Jim Hemmings, organised by his son Mark in support of the Macmillan Cancer Appeal and the anglers taking part all contributed to a donation of over £300 to the charity.
Well known local matchman Dave Schofield made no mistake with a flawless demonstration of long range method feeder fishing from fancied peg 54, where, casting tight to the island he tempted ten carp for about 65lb topping up with 30lb of bream mainly on white boilie hook baits for a winning catch of over 96lb..
Another top angler , Joe Roberts from the crack Starlets team, who was last years winner of the same event, continued his strong form on the lake taking an excellent catch of skimmers with a few good bream and one or two quality roach for a bag of over 57lb from peg 7 for second spot.
Another Starlets man Ian Barrow took third with 44lb of skimmers on the open ended feeder from peg 68 just edging first time lake visitor Tom Price from Gloucester on next door peg 69 into fourth place with a 42lb return with Jon Newton in fifth spot with 34 lb of skimmers from peg one.
