Hi all, in a seven foot swim, when fishing meat or paste.Where woul be the best place to fish. The swim gradually slopes away to 7 ft.You here a lot about 4ft being ideal.Or would you fish at the base of the shelf. When after carp in summer.

start at the base then move up the shelf as the fish start competing, liners will give away that the fish are coming up

can be a nightmare though if they wont settle!

With paste I like to fish as close in as possible or as close as the fish allow as its less time consuming. Be careful because the bottom of the near shelf can be silty, but obviously it depends on the lake. A flat spot is ideal, but gently easing the paste up the slope until the float appears can be deadly. In deep water try placing a couple of number eights 2 inches from the hook. It helps accentuate bites.
