TF_AnglerPaul_MParticipantMorning all,
After my last session waggler fishing it’s time for me to refill the match spools, but it leaves me with a conundrum. What line to choose? Currently I use Grey’s G-Tec 4lb, which I think is great, but because the line is semi “hi-tec” it tends the wear a lot quicker than some of the older lines. One of my match fishing mates still swears by Bayer, but in comparison to modern lines it’s like rope!
So I’m thinking of either sticking with G-Tec (I also like the colour) or trialling Drennan Supplex or the Preston line (think it’s called reflo?) but am open to suggestions and opinions.
Cheers folks

TF_Fred DavisGrauvell Teklon Gold is used by a lot of the top pellet waggler anglers at Stafford moor in 0.16 and 0.18 the line is extremely thin and smooth as well as being extremely strong, the advantage with this line is that it is fine and the extremely smooth finish means it casts off of the spool better than any line I have ever used for pellet wag work it allows you to cast 2swan wags the same distance as you were casting 4 swan wags with your old line, the fine diameter catches the wind a lot less so control is markedly better, available on e-bay or direct from Weymouth angling centre the line is around £13 for 300 metres, I think most of the travelling anglers that visit Stafford and see the method fished properly end up buying this line it is that good, I know a lot of the postal lads did apart from myself and for pellet wag fishing this is “THE” line. The line is not cheap but then you get what you pay for.

TF_spotter1707I use Daiwa sensor line in 4,6 & 8lb. bs.for all my reels. Steve Ringer uses it & if you need a recommendation that’s got to be the one! It’s very good value in bulk for about £9 for a 4oz spool.

TF_Fred DavisOf course Daiwa sensor line is a budget line, cheap as chips for a bulk spool and even cheaper at trade shows great line if your on a budget and Steve Ringer who is sponsored by Daiwa uses it, then again he is hardly going to use anything else is he !!!!!!!!!! When Steve was sponsored by Shimano he was using tecnium I suppose that speaks volumes as well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not knocking Daiwa sensor as it is a good all round workhorse but it is a budget line and simply not in the same class, the question was what is the best line for waggler fishing not what is the best budget line! As I said you get what you pay for either 2000 yards for £7.99 off of e bay (which should be telling you something) or a proper line lol

TF_spotter1707As much as i respect your views regarding sponsorship etc. I seem to rememner you yourself were at one time singing the praises of, i think, ultima line. What happened to that?

TF_Fred DavisSpotter I never received any individual sponsorship from Ultima and always stated that if I found anything better I would not hesitate to use it, I have never been tied to any one brand but used what was best suited to my style of fishing, I still use Ultima power match and have some ultima power steel left which I use for lead work, method and pellet feeder, unfortunately it has been reported that Ultima has gone into liquidation and I doubt any further new stock of the line will be available which means that once my own supplies dwindle I will have to look at using a new brand of line for pole and lead work, however when a line stands out head and shoulders above all others for a particular use then I take notice, which is why I and many other anglers who fish the pellet wag have bought several spools of grauvell for this specific method / pellet wag work, I know some of the lads are also using it for pole work however I have not tried it, I know it is pricey but then the best always is, The line enables you to use lighter floats and gives more finesse to an excellent method, however if your happy with daiwa sensor continue to use it, at the price it is a very good budget reel line.

TF_Terrence22The korum reel line is pretty good. Not too expensive and really good for abrasion resistance around snags etc!
