AnonymousYou are going to have to define ‘best’. What do you want to know ? Lightest ? Slimmest ? Best balanced ? Stiffest ? Strongest ? At what length ? 16m, 14.5m, 13m ???? True length ? Stated length ???
There are so many factors.

TF_JohnHEven if you define what best means, the above post poses all the right questions, how do you think you will ever find out?
I posted something similar a few months back regarding what everyone’s opinion was as to what was the strongest top end pole out there and in truth those that really know will not tell us!
The guys that invest time and trouble into the sport attract sponsorship and with it sadly goes impartiality,
Many years ago on Worsborough reservoir they used to have Wednesday night opens, I saw all the top Barnsley rods along with the likes of Bob Nudd, Ivan Marks etc. I learned so much just looking at what was on their side trays, line, hooks, rigs, bait, how they fed along with rods and poles etc. Sponsorship was in its infancy then, happy days!
The only option to see this now is probably at Evesham over the bank holiday.
I have no axe to grind but Daiwa seem to attract top anglers not sponsored but you could conclude that these guys are just following the fashion like I have done. -

TF_JohnHTench, I recall as a youngster looking at the tackle shop window and wishing I had this rod, reel, pole etc with the idea it would catch me more fish. The truth is it wont. Someone famously said floats were designed to catch anglers not fish. Ivan Marks also said in a video I had that if I had a favourite float I should throw it away because I would try to use it when I should not.
If you want to improve as an angler all the best gear will not necessarily get you there.Onto poles and my observations, if you are fishing for big fish the strongest pole without a doubt in my view is the Shimano Diaflash, they were made 20 plus years ago or so and nothing can touch it, not even the current margin poles.
All the top end poles are good whatever model you buy but I not think they are getting better. Why do I say that? To keep costs down raw materials cannot move forward in the way they should because there is no market. Many years ago poles were on the market for £8k plus and simply its beyond what 99.9% of anglers could or would pay. I believe therefore that manufacturers are giving us the best they can for the price the market will sustain.
Daiwa for example, slip free paint aside have not significantly improved on the original Pro which is regarded by many as the standard to compare all top end poles. If I am not mistaken its been around 10 years plus now.
In conclusion if you want to improve do not get hung up on gear, a top angler will catch more than you using your gear than you would using his. I honestly think for the price we pay we are spoiled for choice with good gear today. -

AnonymousAgreed John H. I know some very successful open anglers whose gear would not sell at a car boot.
A bit like some peoples written English innit? -

TF_JohnHJust making the point that its water craft, baits, feeding and rigs that you really need to think about.
I have two top end 16m poles in my holdall that rarely come out, I seem to catch most fish these days short. Just read the match reports posted on here for the likes of White acres and note how many matches are won top 2 plus 2 compared to 16m.
No contest, yet we all aspire to having the best 16m package we can find, why?
A sub £100 pole will be fine at top 2 plus 2!! -

TF_mike pattinsonTheres lots of good poles on the market it is just what you want and what you can afford.
For me I still use as my first choice wepon a Daiwa Spectron Competition, and I’m fortunate to have a few poles to choose from. This Pole I think still sets the standards today unless you want an animal pole. I bought the M2 as a potential replacement and only used ti about 8 times.
For canals I still have a DAM Futron which I bought when they first came out with 8 top kits. Thought at the time it was the bees knees (until I got the speccy) light stiff and slim but not a carp pole.
I also have the Spectron Power & Tournament which I use on carp venues the tournament where bigger carp are present. The power provides a cheap backup.
A friend had a preston RS100 absolutly brilliant pole but I found it not as forgiving (bit more brittle if you know what I mean) as the Daiwa’s otherwise it would have been my choice.
Best pole each manufacturer has produced brilliant poles at some time or another the problem is when you damage a section and want replacements if they were still readily available how many would change the pole they have currently?

TF_tench0771one pole that i think is realy underated is the map parabolix sti the finish is amazing even after 6 years of use the only problim is they get hot in the sun, its stiff strong bit heavy at 16m well 15.4 true langth :D, its very sharp on the strike to the only joint that wrks lose is the 12m/13m joint, but if ur fishing all day it just needs a quick twist back in half way throu the day so no biggy
