        i am just getting back into fishing one of the places i can fish on have carp upto about 8lb . i have been left some rods , one is 2.5 test curve which i think could too much . the other rod is a shakespeare 12 foot match rod i need to know which is best to use or what to buy

          although the match rod would be capable of landing a 8lb carp the line its rated for you might struggle on .

          i`d recommend a avon rod of 1.25lbs or 1.5lbs tc
          these are usually rated (4-8lbs b/s) too take a stronger line more capable of handling a smaller carp and will have a forgiving through action .

              A specimen floatrod would be perfect. There are loads on the market or something like the Drennan pudlechucker rods.They are quite cheap and can handle lines up to 6lb so that would be fine for carp up to 8lb.

                get a barbel rod with two tops rated 1.5lb – 1.75lb test curve
