TOURNAMENT-TOMCan anyone reccomend a good hollow elastic? i have been using daiwa hydro but find it too stretchy, excellent for holding on to really angry lumps but netting them takes forever and i find myself holding the top 6 in the air!, are any of the others similar but a bit harder?

TF_Mike_GlobeInvest in some pull bungs or use shorter lengths of hydro.
Using too heavy elastics is a recipe for hook pulls IMHO!

TOURNAMENT-TOMnever used a puller bung, what would be a good one to try? doesn’t the elastis fray when you keep pulling it out? i do love the initial stretch of the hydro so pulla bungs sound like the way to go

TF_red_hydroAgree with Mike, I use hydro and do two power tops with one packet, and am netting the fish on the top 2

TF_Mike_GlobeI use the preston ones but don’t think it really matters which one.

TF_red_hydroI use red and the fish I am tagetting are between 1lb and 17lb. I also add a small length of dacron or builders string so it is easier to tighten the elastic when fishing to snags etc

BerkswolfParticipantFine for general carping if not set too tight. Bit heavy for F1s
Your Tourny should take it OK in the powere sections.
I happily use red hydro in my G10. Perhaps you should have got one yourself! 😉

TF_PikeyI use red hydro for nearly all my summer fishing (mainly carp between 3-15lb) and dont think I have ever netted a fish on anything but my top 2 – and I’ve not set mine really tight. Wouldn’t use it for F1’s though.

TF_dave brittainOn some of the venues that I fish black hydro is to soft however the purple is fine. Also with some poles the power kits are a bit long, mine are 3m cut right back, so it can pay to add 1-2 ft of dacron between the bung and the elastic depending on the legth of your top kit.
I don’t go along with cutting hollows in half because where bigger fish are concerned you risk bottoming the elastic out which could end in disaster as something has to give. In the same way tightening the elastic IMO is also wrong and is a poor choice for selecting the wrong elastic in the first place.
Pull bund are a superb bit of kit providing that the fish aren’t bottoming out your elastic in the first place.
Regarding the heavier elastics, purple hydro is a very good compromise however I’d also recommend the Shakespeare/Middy blue hollow core, (it’s rated 18-22 but is softer and is not too disimilar to purple hydro although it may have slightly more power), Orange Vespe, (very forgiving for a big elastic) and then red hydro.

TF_Smeddont go too big on your elastics or cut them back too far unless you are fishing a very snaggy swim
been there done it, lost way too many fish for my liking..
at the mo im fishing a canal type lake with carp upto 4lb on white and grey hydro through top 2 set soft
may take a little longer to land em but im making em count…ive also heard good things about the prestons hollo laccys but not tried em personally

james16The Preston Hollow are great. I use the 13 & 15’s, landed fish up to 8lb on the 13’s and double figure carp on the 15’s and they weren’t even set tight.
