TF_MOOREYI have just joined the BAA after many years of mainly fishing commercials, and to be honest I’ve got a bit bored with them, and would like to ask a few questions.
1) Does anyone know what venues are best for roach/chub fishing this time of year. Avon or the Severn. A bit of info on tactics and baits would also be appreciated
2) What is the island stretch like at Holt Fleet, above and below the weir.
3) Is the river Anchor at Tamworth worth a visit.
Thank you in advance for any info

TF_caster robParticipantBest roach fishing is on the Severn from Ribbesford to Stourport (Newhalls) imo.
Bronze maggot fed with hemp on the float and maggot or bread-flake on straight lead are my favoured methods.
Not fished Holt since they used to have the upstream stretch, some big chub in there but the island stretch always used to attract pike anglers.

TF_PaddyIf you want to fish Holt Fleet, go onto the island onto the far side (away from the lock keepers hut) and fish the last peg on your right. I have put alot of time into that place and i dont know why, but that last peg is the flyer. You will see 2 more pegs, prior to the last one and they never fish any wher near as good as the last one.
I wish you could fish it right off the point, but it looks well dodgy and is to high off the water.
There aint many Roach there, but that last peg produces good Skimmers and Bream on maggot.
I have never fished below the weir, so cannot say about that area. -

I`ll second that. Also Barton, Marcliff can be cracking this time of year. I also had a day in the summer on the BAA`s Manor Farm stretch and I had a good lot of roach then with the river low and clear so that may be an option also if the banks aren`t too muddy you can drive to your pegs there.

TF_caster robParticipantThe Ladyham stretch at Clacks Farm (upstream of Holt Fleet) usually fishes well at this time of year.
Might be “up a bit” this week though.

TF_PaddyUp a bit! he he!
Ignore the BAA, try some proper fishing on some FREE water. You must be close/a midlander?? owing to the places you mention and ask about? So head for the best kept secret (not any more) in the Midlands – The river Stour.
If the Severn is “up a bit” as Rob says, assuming he means rattling through with a good 3ft plus on as it is at the moment, go for the Stour, prior to it hitting the Severn.
It’s colour, height, pace and depth are to die for if you like the stick, give it ago, you know it makes sense! -

TF_MOOREYThanks for the info. Yes Paddy, I live in Birmingham but like i said previously have spend far to many years fishing carp match pools, its time for me to get back on the river again. My mom and dad have a van on the river Teme just opposite the PEACOCK INN………so we go past holt fleet every time we visit them and Ive always liked the look of the island so will deffo give it a go within the next couple of weeks. All i gotta do now is pack away my margin baggin poles and get the float rods dusted down……lol.

TF_PaddyI fished the Kinver Free Liners waters between Bewdley and Stouport 3 weeks ago, which is the old BAA waters by the static caravan park.
It fished really well on that stretch. You could park a submarine on the inside its that deep!
Give Mal Storeys a ring at Kidderminster, they should be able to tell you about the BAA stretch at Bewdley.
Be warned though at the moment that its well up and coloured up as well. -
