Have I bought the right stuff here I’ve bought some blue hydro for skimmer fishing fish averaging 6oz, I bought it because its rated 5 – 8 it feels way heavier than 5-8 to me !!!!! I can use it up for winter carp so alls not lost but it seems heavy to me,think I should have got yellow

Personally I think its way too heavy for skimmers of that size, five Preston slip at most, I have tried all hollow elastics for silvers and feel they are all to heavy, unless you are catching 1-2 pound skim bobs.

Hi Ant, got to agree with z12bagger No5 slip seems just right, imo, blue hydro is too heavy, haven’t tried the yellow hydro that’s just come out though, supposed to be lighter than the blue. might be worth a look.

              hi.
have you tried number 6 solid through top 3.
soft enough not to bump 1oz roach (size 18 hook), strong enough for a 3lb tench.
my first choice when fishing for mixed silvers.

Yellow hydro is still no better, still too harsh for fish of that size, brilliant if you were bagging pound fish, certainly no good for little fish, been there, tried that, personally I don’t think you can beat Preston slip, anything from a 1-8 for smaller fish, any thing after that white hydro

Thanks for the replies,I do have a couple of kits with no 3 and no 6 Preston slip in its good elastic. The method behind getting the blue hydro was I have a kit with blue Preston 9 hollo its set soft but its a little too harsh I somehow imagined the blue hydro to be alotsofter and stretchier than it is but like I say I will use it up winter carping, in regards to Preston slip being different Ian I Hart noticed it myself as I don’t fish for silvers every week but I had herd comments of other anglers claiming its changed some were looking for shops with old stock so there must have been adjustments made I think as is par for the course manufacturers change their process and materials driven by their own performance indicators and remain oblivious to the fact that the product has changed.

Got to agree it’s a bit heavy for what you are intending to use it for, try the pink. Currently I use the pink in deeper water and doubled middi 3-5 which is great to use.

trying yellow hydro tommorow on a silvers match mainly roach,on skimmer venues doubled slip n/o3 is superb
