Hi just joined the forum so hello to you all, browsed around the site in the past but thought I’d take the plunge and see what I can learn.

I have a pair of Skeetex moon boots and the liners have had it, although I have had them for several years so can’t complain.

My question is should I fork out for new liners or is there a better alternative out there now. Considering that the liners are about £20 from what I have seen.

        Any suggestions welcomed.

I had Skeetex but found the liners wore out quick and were hard work to walk in. I now have Sundridge Hot Foot boots which are 100% better

I had Hot boots size 12 . Man they take up that much room you can’t move ! They looked like Wallace and grommet . Fork out 85. To 100. £ for Neoprene insulated Muck boots or accompany called Grubbs of the U S A . Check go outdoors. Or others for sales . Got a pair of 8.5 Grubbs last year for 55£. !!! . They are the doggies !! Failing that invest in those liners some say its hard to beat skeeter boots . For me personally I cannot put up with a loose sock that stops on your foot and you slip a disc flaffing with it .. 😀 😀 😀 The more research you put in the happier the outcome !!

Had muckboots for 3 or 4 years worn really well and quite warm and easy to walk in.Latest muckmaster muckboots look good, down to -21c although expensive about £75, had some half price on groupon but just missed out.

The muck boot company changed all the blessed names last year . The top fishing welly was called the Tay Sport @ -40 . You need to find the name of the replacement model . My boots are made by a rival company called grubbs . Mine are called Snowline 8.5. Good to minus 40. There is even a12.5 model . If you trawl the Webb for top end neoprene wellies you will get a reality check as to the money you could spend. . Checkout a welly called Chamoir Visenoord !!!! WOW Thems what the top jollies go hunting in ! 😮 When you really do your research it becomes apparent that the warmer the claims the more money they will cost . Dunlop make a top end welly about eighty quid but I think it’s got a steel toe . Rumour has it that i am. Tight Mine where 55£ at go outdoors half price and I’m happy . You need to get lucky for boots in your size at the right price at the right time . Ask yourself how much will I invest in warm feet. Or buy wooly lined cheap ones that your mate reckomends Your choice .Start researching.  :p

Thanks for the advice so far.

Sounds like you get what you pay for (as is almost always true).
One thing I have found with my Skeetex is the lack of grip on the bank, had a few near misses especially of late with all the rain the banks are a bit of a mud bath! Could result in an expensive slip when you’ve got pole sections and the like nearby.

I had Skeetex for years, absolutely crap to walk in!

I then had Hotfoots, better for walking but they split after a few years.

Now have the Muckboot Tay Sports.

Lots of comfort and easy to walk in.

You can roll down the neoprene leg part if it is too warm on the day.

What sort of socks does everyone wear under these grubbs/muckboots?
I’ve had the sundridge hotfoots for years and am thinking of upgrading.
Sundridge have always been warm enough but you have to wear a pair of sealskinz inside them otherwise you end up wet through!

i can still drive in skeetex – admittedly they’re a bit bulky but thats the whole point to decrease cold from the ground. The newer ‘essex’ liners are, so far, after some 16 months, far better wearing than the old white ones which barely lasted a season.

Team Ratler asks of socks for muck or grubbs boots . I put long socks on but not specialy thick ones . They seem to be warm enough as they are . We haven’t had extreme cold yet have we? Remember to buy big eneogh to add thick socks if req . Also someone mentioned Merino wool . Not many other materials come close !! Not got the socks yet . But Tescos sold Merino wool roll neck tops. 25£ before xmas and12.50? !!!! In the jan sales . Pure Merino and wash well . On the Webb I could not find those tops for under 50£ You must treat yourself you won’t be disappointed . You will see some right fancy prices for Merino wool garments so you got to do lots of research ! 😮

Muckboot Tay, they are the dogs dangles. Comfy to walk in and no silly linning. No need to wear 3 pairs of socks like I did with my seeteks.

When we get bit stiff from grafting our tits on building sites . Wrestling with a bloody loose sock might just ruin a good start to the day . We need a welly that stands up don’t need a loose sock keeps us warm comfy and got a great grip . Lads they don’t come cheap but you won’t regret treating yourselves . Invest in the best !!! 😎 😎 😎

I would recommend flip flops – Think about winter boots in about another 9 months – It’s almost summer 😀
