I have not used braid for a number of years and even then I used it straight through with a long mono hooklength.
My question to you all is which is the best way to attach a mono shock leader to the braid main line for open water bream fishing?

Many thanks for the anticipated replies. 🙂

8lbs Shimano Technium (0.26) mono takes some stick. Attach using the Albright knot and make sure you trim the ends close to the knot. Korda braid scissors are great for this. For the length of shock leader I roughly allow for the drop of the feeder while casting and wind two complete handles turns on. When you go to land a fish you can feel and hear the shocker knot coming through the rings and then know where the fish is and when to lift the rod for netting.

This was recommended by Keith Arthur and I now use it all the time
It’s quite difficult at first but is a fantastic, tiny knot which casts brilliantly

Without doubt the j knot. Its very very tricky at first because you are effectively whipping the lines along themselves. There are some good videos on youtube that you can pause along each of the stages to help you out, that’s what i did anyway. Brilliant knot and well worth learning as its bulletproof..

Tie a figure of 8 look in the braid then tie the mono to it using the knot to tie a eyed hook. This was recommended Bob Nudd at one of the Irish tourist board road shows many years ago and has never let me down yet

thank you to you all for your info.
they all look promising and i think i will try the j knot first.
                  fingers crossed

I always just go straight through, even with short hook lengths. A soft rod and a limp wrist helps…..

Same for me,as long as the loop is tiny.Never had any problems with this setup.

thats what we’ve all be using …another good tip with braid is..don’t over fill the spool..just under the lip..i use maxima as shock leader..for a couple of reasons…1, it sinks like a stone and 2,because it stretches and helps not to bump fish off..on which with other hi tec mono’s on where theres little or no stretch..can be a problem…don’t strike either..lift into the bite… 😉
