now that this pole has been out for a while, what do you guys who own it think? Has it stood up to long term testing and how is it coping with carp now that we are moving into summer?

Have any of you measured the poles actual length at 16m (without the number 1 section) would be interested to see how it compares to others. The stats show that it is lighter than the airity weighing only 1330g at full length, does it feel as light as it is?

Also, how far do you have to cut back the power match tops to get a sensible sized bush like a maver no.6 internal fitted?

i ve never measured my Z9 but i did measure the Z7 before i went to whiteacres last year. i cut 8 inches of the top kits to take a maver number 6 internal bush and with the half ex fitted the pole measured 15.95 meters.

weight wise the Z9 certainly feels lighter than my old tounrey pro did.

i just bushed the no2,and been catching carp to double figures with doubled 8 and 17h.fishing at 16m is way easier than it was with my g10,infact i rekon i could manage a bit further.

Adam, assuming the z9 is the same length as the z7 that makes it pretty short, the extension is listed as 0.9m so without that you only have 15.05m which is not great. I was reading that the g10 measures 15.75 without the number 1 section. Pigslayer what made you swap from the g10?

the Z7 half ex is a fair bit shorter than the Z9 one so it could be slightly longer. i ll try and measure it if i get chance

too heavy and a pig in the wind,z9 not as stiff at 16m but then again dont think it has to be,its better balanced, lighter, better finish, and so far seems strong enough.bought it blind and luckily im happy with it.

with the no1 removed and the half extension in place the pole measures 16.1m

I totally agree with pigslayer, the G10 is too heavy, too stiff and awful in the wind. The Z9 is light, responsive and fantastic through the hands. I have removed the no1’s and bushed the no2 and found that it will fit a decent enough sized bush that i don’t need to cut back any more, the biggest elastic i use is double no8 and its fine. Have caught a few biggish carp 8-10lb and the pole coped fine, i was a little worried the no4 felt a bit light but its been ok so far. I did have a carp well into double figures on saturday at Lindholme that bottomed out my doubled no5, the pole was really bent before the carp jumped 2 feet out the water which actually stripped the elastic out of my pulla kit and the pole never flinched.

Have had the Z9 since launch, at first after changing from a tourny i was a little wary of the strength of the Z9, now i have absolute faith in its strength, the PMK tops are superb, i have cut a few inches off the end of the tops and fitted Maver No5 internals.
I can honestly say i have put as much pressure on this pole as i can with 16 laccy and carp in the 10lb bracket away from snags fishing the margins and it has not flinched, yes it does bend when you pull on it but this i think is where the strength comes from.

If you are in the market for a new pole in this price range then take a look at the Z9 if your in the midlands area and cannot find a shop with one in stock give me a shout and i will happily meet you with my Z9.

Had a go with Z9 last weekend nice pole, have to say noway near as stiff as the G10,would rather sacrifice a bit more weight and have the ridgidty and strength of the G10 and we dont fish in windy conditions every time we go out do we, no need to put half extensions up the G10 to give you near 16mtrs.(Heard the tpx not the length it states at 16 mtrs)

Not that strange pigslayer just had the oppertunity to have a go with it at 16mtrs always nice to try the opposition out, like i said nice pole at the end of the day.

Ive got the Z9 pro package and i mesured it at 18m with the tip out and the short ext on. Ive used it a 17.5 a few times and its still well useable. My mates got a g10 and at 16mt they are almost exactly the same lenght cut-back and the g10 is much longer than a Pro. He is also going to change to a 9 now as its just a strong but much lighter. And its a lot cheaper than a G1000 or Pro x. I take the tip out for carp lacis but the tip is quite thick and have only cut about 8â€

hi lads, i have just bought the pro x, it was out of the z9 or the pro. Yes i went for pro just because of great after sales and i trust the quality of daiwa (also the number of spare no.4’s) but i must say i was very very impressed with z9 and the finish was brilliant. i was really tempted but just stuck to what i know, no doubt the z9 is a top pole by browning

Has anyone had the Z9 up against a Sensas 774,if so how do they compare ?

I’d say they are lighter, stiffer, more responsive and just better all round than the 774, the 774 has a better spares package though.

Not owned one but used one for 2 weeks when i was trying to decide between a 774, G10 and Tourney Pro.

sounds like pretty positive reviews all round then. I have to say though the fact that its 16.1m with the half ex means its only 15.2 without, by the time you cut it back a bit your left with only 15m which is very short…may go some way to explaining why its so light i guess~think

I believe that the half-ex should be used on the butt sections to take the pole to 13/14.5/16m. lengths and not as an extension past those lengths if you know what i mean. That is probably why its supplied with 2 of them. This could also be total rubbish i’ve dreamt up. ~think

I’ve had a Z9 for 3 weeks now and I am really pleased with it .

For those that are interested my pole once the no.1 taken out measures:-

                                                15.30 m at full length
                                                16.10 m with 14.5/16 m ext added
                                                16.9 m with both the 11.5/13 m and 14.5/16.5 m extensions added.

the short exts are very lite and not just cheap n heavy dolly butts like some poles come with. they dont unbalance the pole at all. I use mine all the time when using 11m up. They give the pole a nice feel and are a good marker when shiping out (you ever gone off the end of the pole when shiping out quickly ?) I never liked the PHEX on my old diawa 410.
I used my 9 at the full 18m yesterday to give it a good try and had a big foulhooker that almost bottomed purple hydro out. I thought it was going to go but it just bent a lot! I had the power 4th in which prob helped. At the go-fishing show the guy on the B stand showed me some puller kits with 2 holes which fit the 9 – might give tham a try.

There’s a pull kit coming out, base on the power match kits, they’ll be better than the one that are based on the power kit…
