TF_CraftytaftyCan anyone give me some advice on this.
My Mum has just had her renewal come through on her car and it has gone up 40% which is ridiculous.
Our situation is, she doesn’t drive anymore ( she’s 81) Only I drive her car ( I’m her carer) and in the main only when she’s with me or I’m doing stuff for her, shopping etc.
I have a van which I use for fishing etc which I insure through another company. I’m with co op, Mums with Churchill
any advice on any options, maybe companies who will insure a second car doing less mileage, I don’t know but there must be a better way than what we do now?
cheers in advance

TF_PaddyBegs the question, why insure your mother if she does not drive?
Get a qoute for both vehicles in yor name only and specify the milage of both (they would normally ask you that anyway).
I would also look at the on line insurers as well, some one who you have not used before, as they will look to take the new opportunity business. 40% increase is a bit of a whopper, but, where they increasing it due to your mothers age? I know they did that with my missus father. It is a hassle, but i reckon by having a good ring round you should get better than what you are being offered. -

TF_JMCLincolnJust had a qoute through for my renewal, gone up 30% not had a claim against me in 26years, guess what they can swivel.

TF_Craftytaftywe moved to Churchill last year cos of hassle with Rias. this is exactly the same just the renewal.
I’ll try Admiral and also who I’m with to see what they can offer.
Would both cars have to be in my name.I get the impression that’s what Churchill did, anything to get the business.
More examples of being scammed in England!!!!!!!!
Other than that I’ll just put some ramps in my van and wheel my Mum in and strap her down~clap ~clap ~clap ~clap ~clap ~clap. I told her that and she stuck 2 fingers up at me! can’t imagine why~think

TF_D.W.Insurance renewals have all gone up this year due to the sheer number of claims made because of the snow!!!! This was told to me off the record by a customer service representative friend of mine who works for Aviva (she gets her insurance elsewhere as they are more expensive than others even with her staff discounts!).
Best company at moment I have found is Tesco. Were the cheapest by a long shot on my van, and adding my other half onto the policy as a named driver saved me another £60 (they never told me that when I took the policy out!). They were cheaper than all the comparison sites by a long shot as well. Tesco also do a multi-car policy (these policies are applicable to the registered keepers address), plus they send you a £25 gift card after the first monthly premium has been paid (and if you shop instore – which I don’t – you also get clubcard points). -

TF_macca63Tesco, Direct Line and Churchill are all owned by RBS so will probably all give similar quotes, the main factor why her insurance has gone up so much is her age, once you hit 80 they really load the premiums.

TF_CutnutRegardless of her age as has been said why bother insuring her if she does not drive and at 81 probably needs to be verified fit to drive annually anyway.
I was with volvo insurance for years and then along came confused.com etc and I change insurers each year as new policies more often than not attract a better deal than renewals.
Loyalty to one insurer/broker these days is a waste of your money imho….shop around and be prepared to haggle too.
Not looking forward to finding insurance for youngest son when he turns 17. Apparantly companies are challenging claims where the youth is a named driver on a ‘parents car’.

Churchill Direct & Direct Line were nearly £200 more than Tesco on exactly the same policy!!!

I let my father have the clubcard points Jeff, but the £25 gift card came in handy in buying stuff for the wedding this weekend (would have thought I would have learnt after the first time! lol)

TF_GLEBE1Another reason its going up through the roof is all of the claims now made for personal injury, my wife had a minor scuff, hit by another car doing 2 mph, she received seven phone calls regarding her personal welfare, neck ache, back ache etc,in the end she told them to sod off and stop pestering her!! bloody madness and we are paying for it~naughty ~naughty

TF_CraftytaftyI think we only did it in her name as she has 7 years no claims and if i did it I would only have no claims on my van, not on her car.
We moved to Churchill last year and she was already 80, but they said nothing, prob desperate for the business.

Yet another reason is all the fraudulent claims, staged accidents etc

TF_BlobbyParticipantJust be aware that even if it is your mothers car if she is not the driver because she doesn’t drive it needs to be insured in the main drivers name even if that driver is not the owner/keeper of the vehicle

TF_CraftytaftyChurchill told me that if I insured my van with them, which I have 70% no claims, they would insure me for another vehicle on a second policy but would give me the same NCB as my van which I thought was ok.
