        Any ideas?
Had a mare of a day at Topcroft in Norfolk (my local) as the carp were thrashing in the margins doing their spawning but there were a few cruising. The only trouble was the wind was blowing a hooly! There was no way to present a bait just under the surface, I didn’t have my pole with me but in the wind it wouldn’t have stayed still very long.
After coming away it dawned on me that I might be able to use fly tactics to get the surface feeders.
Does anyone have any hints and tips (apart from get some fly gear) like flies to use etc. I don’t know anything about using fly gear for anything but I must give it a go.

I went out today for a couple of hours with the fly rod, went to Weybread Pits on the club lake. The carp were on the top and with the help of a few dog biscuits they were most obliging. I used fly with a round body and a little green tail (?). Took two commons and a mirror between 7 & 9lb then moved. So easy when not loaded with tons of gear. Took another common of about 6lb while everyone else on the lake could only watch! I could get to like this method.

nice to see you actually caught on the fly – I’ve often thought of trying it myself but not sure my gear is up to it.
What fly gear were you using??
