Hi Steve i was reading the article in the angling times
about pellets the other week and you was saying about how use like to use wire stemmed floats in winter, how do you determine what type of float to use? Obvisously wire for stability but what about other? It’s something that sometimes confuse’s me.

        Thanks Trav.

I tend to keep things simple and stick to certain what i call general patterns such as KC carpa chimps, gents and belters in the winter. All feature wire stems and which i use depends on both the depth i am fishing in as well as the baits i am using.

Do you use wire stems alot in the summer or would you stick to carbon or glass?

I very rarely use carbon, dont like the way they sit ie not particularly stable and dont sit straight away unless you are using a float of around a gram. I think the only carbon stemmed floats i use are some Rive ones which are 1g-2g which are for Porth. I basically use wire or glass for all my summer work, i find if i put four rubbers on the float stem i dont have a problem with wire stems bending. Glass is extremely flexible so that isnt a problem either.
