        REPORT
Championship Match 18 (the penultimate match of the 2014-2015 Season) was fished on the Kingfisher Lake at Beechwood (Elvaston). In spite of near gale force wind and some heavy rain showers, the match was very well attended, and anglers were generally well rewarded as 18 of the competitors caught over 10-00 of fish.
Once again the top places were closely fought, this time only two ounces splitting the top two.
Dave Cotterill managed to come out on top to take the Jubilee Shield with 54-08 from peg 38. In spite of the gusting wind, Dave managed to fish his pole at 13m and baiting with dead red maggot over micro pellet feed, he caught carp of all sizes regularly throughout the match.
Approximately diagonally opposite on the lake to Dave on peg 20, Brian Leafe fished pellet at 11m for his carp catch, which included carp approaching “double figures”, but his 54-06 total left him just short of the top spot and he had to settle for second place.
Anthony White on peg 34 took third place by alternating a “banjo” feeder and waggler (with maggot). Generally most of his bigger fish (carp) fell to the “banjo” and he ended with 49-06.
Nigel Brailsford (peg 11) fished the “banjo” most of the day, with all of his fish falling to it. His 45-14 gave him fourth place.
Steve Talbot on peg 25 caught mainly smaller fish throughout the day by fishing with corn bait over pellet feed, and his 39-10 gave him fifth place, while in contrast sixth placed John Adamson (peg 10) had only nine bites on pole and pellet for his nine carp catch of 38-04 for sixth place.
Other leading weights were Alan Welch (seventh) with 35-08 from peg 37, Paul Marriott (eighth) with 31-12 from peg 27, Andy Edwards (ninth) with 30-02 from peg 16, with Ivan Carrier taking tenth place with 27-08 from peg 13.
With one match to go Rob Pembridge is Champion elect with an unassailable 253 points, but the next three places remain very close with Steve Talbot on 229, Dave Cotterill on 225 and John Adamson on 222. They are followed by Neil Stevenson (199), Brian Leafe (184), Dave Kent (179), Mick Lager (164), Malc Munn (163) and Les Overmass (162).
The final LEVAS Championship match is at Jansens Fishery (on the Match Pool) on Sunday 15 March, and is for the “Last Bash Trophy”. Book in with Dave Kent to ensure a place.
